Hello everyone, it's Mrs Johnson here!
Now, as many of you will know, I love a good book - children's books in particular. Picture books, chapter books, non-fiction books, poetry books... I adore them all. Maybe some of you have been following my 'Story Time' sessions on this very website (if you haven't, all the 'Story Times' will be online until the end of July, so get watching!).
I am therefore very excited to tell you all about Cambridgeshire Libraries' Summer Reading Challenge, which is beginning this Friday 5th June and running until September. If you have taken part in the Summer Reading Challenge before, you will know that you have to read a certain number of books over the summer holidays to collect stamps, stickers and prizes! This year, things are a little different due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Reading Challenge has gone online.
I will be honest with you all - even though I'm not a child, I set up an account on behalf of my son so that I could have a sneaky peek and find out more about the Challenge... and wow, it looks fantastic! If you sign up, you get to join the ‘Silly Squad’ team of animal friends who love to go on adventures and get stuck into all kinds of books. You even get your own 'Silly Squad' name; my (or should I say, my son's...) Silly Squad name is 'Lieutenant Chilli O'Doughnut'. As you read books over the holidays and log them online, they count towards your challenge total. You’ll get badges and downloads for every book your read and a mega prize for completing the challenge!
Even if you don't want to sign up to the Challenge itself, the Summer Reading website is wonderful and there are lots of fun games and activities for you to have a go at.
So... what are you waiting for? Follow the link below to have a look for yourself.
Stay safe and keep smiling (and reading) everyone,
Mrs Johnson x
