Week beginning 14.09.20

Oh my goodness, it's been another ab fab week in Elm! We are SO proud of each and every one of you for your super attitudes to learning and how you are taking all the new rules and routines in your stride(s). We've had more wonderful achievements this week and I'm pretty sure that all the grown-ups' sock drawers are looking rather empty as you have blown them off so many times since the start of term!

This week, we have continued our work on 'Beegu' by Alexis Deacon, and have created our own cartoon strips of key points from the story. While the Year 1 children thought of a time connective for each part of their cartoon strips (first, next, then etc.), the Year 2s have been taking things a little further and writing whole time-connective sentences for theirs. We have also been thinking about the things that Beegu's parents might send to her down on Earth, and while the Year 1s have been writing lists, the Year 2s have been writing list sentences with commas.

In Maths this week, the Year 1 children have been concentrating on their number bonds to 10 (pairs of numbers that when added together total 10, like 5 + 5 and 3 + 7), while the Year 2 children have been continuing to think about tens and ones, as well as revisiting their two and five counts.

In the afternoons our DT theme has still been going strong, and this week it was the Year 1s turn to impress us with their super sewing skills, while the Year 2s spent time working with Mrs Goude. After thinking of a message for Beegu's parents, the Year 1 children wrote it onto their flags using special fabric pens, and then used a running stitch to sew a seam. We combined the finished flags with the Year 2s' free-standing structures from last week, and the results were fantastic! Fingers crossed the messages are seen by Beegu's parents!
