phonics at Manea School

As you have already heard, part of learning in the EYFS and KS1 is focused on phonics - the learning of letters and sounds.  This is an important development for your child and will support their reading and writing.  Phonics is taught in stages (or phases) and will teach both sounds in words and 'tricky' words or keywords.

Please see below a presentation created by our previous literacy leader about phonics; what it is, why we teach it and how the children progress through the different phonic 'phases'.

There will then be a video about how to pronounce the different sounds that your child will become familiar with.

As always, if you have any questions about phonics or any other aspect of your child's time in school, please don't hesitate to contact your child's class teacher.
