This week we are continuing with our investigations about nocturnal animals.  We are discussing in our learning walks how to create homes for these creatures.  Lots of language involved what would make a good home and what we could do to improve it.  Discussions took place regarding creating a carpet, a chair to sit on, a bed to sleep on and even a locker to lock all of the doors!  We then moved to making sure the homes were fit for purpose...... 'I am putting cement in the holes because if not the posts will fall down then the badgers will scratch on them' 'we need blocks to make the covers straighter' and 'I am testing the floor to make sure it doesn't bump up and down!'  Look at some of our creations below

In other learning we are focusing on the letters h b f and l.  We are also developing our awareness of one more and one less than.  In our artwork we are investigating another artist - called Van Gogh and representing his 'starry night' in many ways using our classroom resources.  We are also developing an awareness of how materials change, discussing ways to keep safe around a fire pit when we cook popcorn!    Pictures will follow! We are also beginning to find out about hibernating animals.  See the link on the document above that has our weekly stories of 'Bear Snores on' and 'How to catch a star.  We have also been very lucky this week and Miss Gascoigne (our maths leader) has set us a tricky challenge for our maths week focus work - this has involved orienteering!  Miss Gascoigne will be letting parents know more information later in the week.

Our fire pit to create the story 'bear snores on'...... we popped our own white corn!  Before we used the fire pit we also found out how to be careful around a fire and created our own risk assessment.
