This week we are starting our new Science unit- Changing states. Mrs Revell has also set you a Music and French task on Thursday too.
There are lots of resources this week. If you do not have access to these resources think of a different way that you could achieve the learning objective.
LO: Compare and group materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases
Starter: Odd one out – Paper, metal, wood and brick. Which one is the odd one out and why?
- How many different types of materials can you list?
- Have a look at the material cards below (no need to print) How could you sort them? Which materials are solids, liquids or gases? What is the different? Use the powerpoint as support.
Task: Draw diagrams to show the different particles for solids, liquids and gases.
LO: Investigate gases
Starter: How many types of material can you name? Which material do you think is most important? Why?
Today we are going to investigate the following concept cartoon and investigate the question: do gases weigh anything?
You will need a bottle of fizzy drink for this. Start by pouring away some of the drink and then weighing it. Next shake it and release some of the gas. Weigh it again. Keep releasing the gas at different intervals and weighing the drink. Record your measurements. Can you use your results to answer our question?- Does gas weigh anything? Did the weight decrease as you released the gas?
LO: Investigate materials as they change state:
Starter: Positive minus interesting: (children think of positive points, negative points and questions they would ask) – Chocolate door handles.
Main: Can you think of any materials that change state? E.g. from a solid to a liquid? What is this process called? (melting) or a liquid to a solid? (freezing) What happens to the materials particles when they change state? Use the PowerPoint to explore this.
Task: Complete the experiment from the PowerPoint to explore what the best temperature is for melting chocolate
Music- answer questions about a famous composer
Who was Mozart? Read the PowerPoint about him and his life and then have a go at creating a factfile about him or complete the comprehension sheet.

Revisit the animals you have learnt before in French and learn 5 new animals using the Powerpoint below.
LO: To recognise the process of evaporation
How Do Wet Clothes Dry? Recap the process of evaporation using the diagram on the Lesson Presentation. Remember that evaporation is responsible for the fact that clothes dry when you hang them on a washing line.
Does the Temperature Affect How Fast Towels Dry? Complete the experiment as set out on the PowerPoint.
