Maths:
This week in maths, Year 1 have been learning about 3D shapes. We have been naming shapes, thinking about the shapes of everyday objects and sorting shapes based on their properties.
In Year 2, the focus in maths has been on addition. We have been adding multiples of ten and two 2-digit numbers. We have applied this knowledge to a range of addition problems.
English:
This week, we have completed our work on the Place Value of Punctuation and Grammar. Year 1 have been consolidating their knowledge of verbs and subjects and have been working hard to include 'leftovers' to add more information to sentences.
Year 2 have been using conjunctions in their writing this week to join clauses and add detail.
We are now all looking forward to applying our knowledge and skills from this to other writing.
Topic:
Our history topic of Kings, Queens and Castles has continued this week and we have been focussing our learning on Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth I and King William I. We have been using timelines to identify when these monarchs reigned and have been looking at the amazing palaces and castles that they lived in.
Children in Need:
As well as completing all of our usual lessons, this week we have also been completing some extra Children in Need challenges! These have been maths based and have challenged us in different ways. In Year 1, the children have been using subitising and addition and subtraction facts to solve problems. In Year 2, the children have been applying their addition skills to money related problems.
