English
This week in English we have continued our work on the Place Value of Punctuation and Grammar and started to look at the subject of sentences. Year 2 have been using regular and irregular verbs and verb phrases. We have all been identifying the 'star of the show' to work out who or what the sentence is about. We have learned that all sentences need to have a subject and a verb for them to be a full independent clause.
Maths
Year 1 have started working on addition and subtraction this week. They have been thinking carefully about number bonds within 10 and how to write number sentences to show this. They have also started to write fact families to show addition in different ways.
Year 2 have started work on addition and subtraction too and have been creating fact families within 20 and using related facts to solve addition problems involving multiples of 10, up to 100!
Topic
We have started a new topic this week and are now completing DT - mechanisms. We have looked at a range of objects with moving parts and have sorted them into how the parts move. We have all had a go at making a moving picture using a slider and a lever and are now looking forward to designing and making more moving pictures next week.
This week in music, we have had a real treat as Mrs Bevan brought in a range of musical instruments for us to investigate and even play! The children have loved learning more about different instruments, how to play them and the sounds that they make.
