LITERACY

Duration: One hour

Learning Objective: To create your own flow-chart.

A flow chart is a visual diagram that shows the steps of any process from beginning to end, boxes, lines or arrows.

Flow charts can be used to illustrate all sorts of different things. Some of the processes you may have seen represented as flow charts in the past include:

  • Instructions for putting together a flat-packed wardrobe.
  • Directions for making a jam sandwich or cup of tea.
  • School rules for getting out of a building in case of a fire.
  • The life cycle of a butterfly.
  • How to make a cake.

Have a look at some of these examples. You do not need to read them, I just want you to see how they are laid out.

Have a go at creating your own flow chart. It can be for anything you like, for example, perhaps you want to keep it simple and show how to make a drink or a sandwich. Or perhaps you want to write about something you know, like how to play a game of RoBlox with your friends. Keep it simple with short sentences like 'Turn on your computer'.

It really doesn't matter what you write about. The main thing is you have a go at writing your own flow chart. You can use the template provided, or you can create your own.
