Hello everyone!
We hope you have all had a lovely Easter break at home and feel ready for the start of summer term. Our topic for this term will be the Tudors and we have lots of activities in store for you, which you will hopefully throw yourselves into and enjoy.
Please remember that, aside from your lessons, you should be reading five times a week and trying to complete the Accelerated Reader quizzes where possible. If you are having trouble accessing Accelerated Reader from home, you can email us for your login details. The class email address is firclass@manea.cambs.sch.uk.
We will be uploading our lesson plans and activities at different times throughout the day on a Thursday. By Friday morning all of the lessons for the week will have been uploaded, so if you have queries or would like some additional information, this would be a good time to email us with your questions.
We really enjoyed your updates and evidence of work last term; please keep it up! It makes us very happy to see you getting stuck into your learning and making the best of the situation we all find ourselves in. Take care and have a great week!

Maths
This week in Maths we will be learning about measure. Please complete the worksheets provided on weight, length and capacity.
Topic
These lessons do include a lot of worksheet/flashcard activities. If you are able to print them off at home that is great. If you are unable to print resources, please look at the activities online and complete them as best you can in a workbook at home.
Lesson 1 Learning Objective: To know who the Tudors were and when they lived.
What do you already know about the Tudors? Look at the picture on the slideshow. How long ago do you think these people were around? Focus on aspect of the scene and the fashion to help you justify your answer. Go through the slides which explain who Henry V111 was. Look at the family tree and refresh your memories on the features of a family tree.
Activity: Go to lesson 1 resources. There are three levels of challenge worksheets, complete with information to help you answer the questions. Please choose your challenge level appropriately and complete one set of questions.
Optional Extra: Cut out the timeline pictures from the resources and arrange them on a timeline. You could arrange the timeline on string, paper or whatever you might have to hand at home.
Lesson Two Learning Objective: To find out what people wore in Tudor times.
Think about what your favourite piece of clothing is and why it is your favourite. Have you noticed that trends and styles have changed a bit, even in your lifetime? What do you think people liked to wear in Tudor times? Look at the different Tudor costumes on the slide show. Discuss the various items you can spot and how they differ to the clothes that we wear now. Go through the slides about Tudor fashion. What do you think of it? Do you think that fashion today is more or less important than back then?
Activity: Go through the picture cards showing different Tudor outfits. Choose one of the three differentiated worksheets to complete.
Optional Extra: Cut out the paper woman or man doll on the sheets provided and design your own Tudor costume for them, using the picture cards as inspiration.
Lesson Three Learning Objective: To find out what Tudors ate and which foods were available in Tudor Britain.
Jot down what your five favourite meals are, with reasons for why they are your favourite. Do you think that in the Tudor times you would have been able to eat your favourite meals? Why/why not? Share your ideas with somebody at home.
Many of the foods that we have today would not have been available during the Tudor times. Go through the slides, which covers the types of food that the rich and poor people would have eaten during that time. Do you think you would have enjoyed the diet of the time.
By the end of the Tudor period, lots of new lands were being discovered, which meant that new foods were being introduced to Britain. Go through some of these on the slides. Only the very rich would have been introduced to those foods, as they were considered expensive, luxury items.
Activity: The picture cards attached contain foods that the Tudors would or would not have eaten. Look at the differentiated worksheets provided and choose an appropriate challenge to complete.
Optional Extra: (Parent/carer to prep before lesson) Cut out the fact cards and stick them around the house, or room you are doing your lesson in. Then the pupil can find and memorise as many of the fact cards as they can. With the facts, create a mind map or fact file.
Mrs Wordsmith
For this week's activity, I am going to write down the meanings (definitions) of five powerful words. They could be words from this year, or even from Year 4. You will need to choose from the bank of words underneath to figure out what all the words are.
Word One: (adj) rich, flourishing or overgrown; like a garden full of big, healthy plants.
Word Two: (adj) having a round stomach; like someone with a belly that would fit in a pot.
Word Three: (adj) very wet or soaked; like when you've had a bucket of water thrown over you.
Word Four: (adj) filling and wholesome; like a healthy bowl of stew on a winter's day.
Word Five: (adj) rich or wealthy; like a neighbourhood where everyone lives in a fancy house.
Word Bank
Pot-bellied; affluent; drenched; lush and hearty.

Take the lists of words below and place them in alphabetical order. Remember if two words have the same first letter, you will need to check the second letter and so on. Once you have ordered these lists, ask someone at home to give you words to find in a dictionary and see how quickly you can locate the word.
1. direction, bigger, duty, cat
2. shin, snake, shine, shop
3. pram, patter, prince, proud
4. creep, cramp, crust, creak
Guided Reading
Please read the challenge one worksheet about the Tudors and complete the follow up questions.
English
Click on this link and then go into ‘biography’.
https://www.ducksters.com/biography
Please read the information on Jane Goodall - she is someone we have already studied in science. Then pick two other people of your choice and read about them. Write the word ‘Biography’ in the middle of a page. Brainstorm what a biography is. Think about the facts you have read in each example, the layout and other language features, for example, written in third person. If you are unsure, type 'features of a biography' into Google. This will help you.
Geography
As part of our geography work this term, we will be examining key topographical features in the UK. Before we start this, please complete the worksheet on world rivers. You need to name the world rivers. Use the internet to help or an atlas. When looking at the atlas, can you see which countries these rivers flow through?
Religious Studies
This term we will be studying both Christianity and Judaism. To begin, please fill in the missing gaps on the worksheet below. You need to then copy this out using your best handwriting.
Science – Outdoor learning - recap of last term's work - habitats
Please go outside into your garden or during your daily walk and try to find three different habitats. Here are some ideas to help. You can pick any of these habitats if you want to. You need to find the habitat, sketch it and then label it with the conditions you find there (wet, damp, dark, etc) and then sketch and label the creatures.
