Autumn 1

Week 8- W/C 21st October 2024

It's been great to be back at school this week- with a particular highlight being the African drumming workshop!

Week 7- W/C 14th October 2024

Non-residential children- a magical few days!

It wasn't just the residential children that had fun last week. The children who were still at school, were tasked with the challenge of designing a new board game. They had lots of fun playing lots of different games, and then making their own! They even invited Miss Froggatt and Mrs Stevens to come and play them.

On magic day, the children learnt some new magic tricks- and made their own magicians using toilet rolls.

They celebrated the end of the week by making their own pizzas and watching a movie.

Grafham Water residential

Some of us are back from an absolutely amazing residential. All of the children worked extremely well together and showed a real sense of perserverance and resilience throughout a range of activities.

And.... some even learnt to make their own bed, with the help of Mr Lenton-Boon's bootcamp.

Throughout the day, we worked in four different groups to complete a wide range of activities! Have a look at the photos below to see some of the highlights.

Week 6- W/C 7th October 2024

It has been a week of starting new units this week. In Literacy, we have begun our new Non-chronological report unit, and have started to look at the different features which should be included.

We have also started our new Geography unit, and have learnt about the Rainforest.

Week 5- W/C 30th September 2024

This week, we have come to the end of our Place value of Punctation and grammar unit in English. There has certainly been a lot of new information to take it during this time, and everyone has done really well and learning new technical vocabulary, and applying it within our lessons.

We have also come to the end of our Viking unit in History. We learnt all about the Vikings invasions- including the invasion at Lindisfarne, and wrote some amazing newspaper articles linked to this!

Week 4- W/C 23rd September 2024

This week we have started our new guided reading text- Beowulf, by Michael Morpurgo. We have really enjoyed it so far- especially because it is a little gorey!

We have enjoyed drawing what we imagine some of the characters to look like.

Week 3- W/C 16th September 2024

In maths, we have started to look at addition and subtraction. We have used our place value knowledge to ensure we are keeping our digits in the correct columns.

In PE, we have been practising yoga positions.

In English, we have secured our learning on verbs, and are now able to recognise regular action verbs, modal verbs and verb phrases.

Week 2- W/C 9th September 2024

It has been a busy week in Years 5 and 6 this week. We have really got to grips with our timetables, and have been working hard in lessons across the curriculum.

In Maths, we have continued to look at the place value of numbers, and have been able to work with these on number lines, and round them too.

In History, we have been starting our learning on Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings, and have learnt why the began to settle in Britain.

In English, we have secured our learning on nouns, and are now able to recognise common nouns, proper nouns, abstract nouns, collective nouns and partative nouns.
