Spring 2

Week 5:

Our Year 5 and 6 children had a fantastic time taking part in our World War Two themed day. It was wonderful to see so many pupils going the extra mile with their costumes, really helping to bring the day to life.

Throughout the day, the children took part in a range of hands-on activities. They enjoyed baking honey and ginger biscuits using a real rationing-era recipe and showed great creativity when building Anderson shelters using both natural and craft materials. It was particularly lovely to see such strong teamwork and collaboration during these tasks.

The children also stepped back in time as they learned some Charleston dance moves and played playground games from the wartime era. Everyone joined in enthusiastically, and the performances at the end of the day were a real highlight.

In the afternoon, the children prepared for a VE Day celebration by making bunting and flags. This led to a wonderful celebration where they had the chance to try foods from the era—including spam! Both children and adults had a fantastic time, and it was a memorable way to deepen their understanding of life during World War Two.

It’s been another busy week in year 5 and 6. In writing, we have been planning letters from the perspective of World War II evacuees. The children have shown great empathy and imagination when thinking about what it would have been like to leave London.

In sport, pupils have taken part in dodgeball and football tournaments, showing fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship. Some children have also successfully completed their Bikeability course—well done to all involved!

In maths, our Year 5 children have been developing their understanding of decimal numbers, building confidence in comparing and rounding.

Week 3: 9.3.26.

The children in Year 5 and 6 have had a fantastic week. In PE, they have been learning a new sport called handball, and the children have really enjoyed developing their skills and understanding of the game. Year 6 have worked incredibly hard in their mock SATs this week and have shown excellent determination. It has been wonderful to see the progress all pupils are making. In maths, Year 6 worked with a learning partner to discuss different strategies when tackling arithmetic questions, helping them to build confidence and problem-solve together. The positive attitudes and effort shown by all children in lessons this week have really impressed us.

Week 2 - 2.3.25

This week in English we have been writing a non-chronological report about an influential person. Each class had their own person to focus on and we also decorated our classrooms doors to celebrate this influential person. We have found out lots of information about Jean-Michel Basquiat, RuPaul and Prince. Have a look at our door displays below!

On Thursday, we had so much fun celebrating World Book Day. Everyone looked fabulous in their costumes and we have taken part in some great activities - the Premier League Booky and Footy Quiz; how to draw book character tutorials; bookmark making and more. In PE the children have started a new PE unit: Handball. On Friday, 7 children took part in a Year 5 & 6 Hockey festival at Neale Wade School in March. They showed excellent determination.

Week 1: WC: 23.2.26.

This week, Year 5 and 6 have been working hard across the curriculum. In science, the children wrote up their own experiments, clearly explaining their method, results and conclusions—showing great scientific thinking and presentation skills. In history, we continued our learning about World War II, with a particular focus on the vital role women played during the war, which sparked some thoughtful discussion and reflection.

In maths, Year 6 have been developing their understanding of area, applying their knowledge to solve a range of problems with increasing confidence. Meanwhile, Year 5 enjoyed their final swimming session, which was lots of fun and a great chance to celebrate how much progress so many children have made in the water.

In RE, we have begun learning about the Easter story, exploring its meaning and importance.

Looking ahead to next week, it is Book Week—we are really looking forward to celebrating our love of reading. Don’t forget to dress up for World Book Day! 📚✨
