Week One:
What an exciting week back! This week is Science Week! So this week has been all things 'Science'. This year's theme is particularly exciting as being curious and asking questions about the world around us is something we all do in our everyday lives.
We started off by learning about examples of STEM careers - conservationists, forensic scientists, sound engineers, aerospace engineers, zoologists and geologists. We worked in pairs to ask these professionals questions, demonstrating our curiosity.
We then learnt about climate change and how we can help our school and home environment. As a school, we are now going to have 'Climate Warriors', where two members of each class are going to be in charge of making sure our classroom is being as economically friendly as it can be! Such as: switching off lights when not being used, picking litter up, making sure taps aren't running when they shouldn't be!
Our first experiment was very exciting! We were exploring how water contact and changing temperatures effect glaciers. We used two ice cubes, one sitting in warm water and the other in cold water. We timed and measured our ice cubes, to see which one melted the quickest. We continued this our experiments with ice the next day - but this time with sand, salt, sugar and flour!
We look forward to sharing more information about our wonderful Science week with those who can come to the marketplace on Friday afternoon!
Week Four:
This term in Art, Year 3 and 4 have been exploring the work of illustrators and learning about their important role in bringing stories to life.
In Lesson 1, the children learnt about what illustrators do and how their artwork helps tell a story in books. They then created their own drawings of Grandad's garden from The Boy Who Grew Dragons, carefully thinking about the details and characters from the story.
In Lesson 2, the children looked at the work of Quentin Blake and used his distinctive style as inspiration to draw their own dragons based from The Boy Who Grew Dragons. They experimented with expressive lines, movement and creativity to create unique dragon illustrations.
Next week, the children will be using clay to create their own masterpieces. Watch this space to see their fantastic creations!
It's certainly been a hot week, so we've been doing our best to stay cool! Lessons in the shaded outdoor classroom, PE indoors (we loved Stackem cups!) and dipping feet in cold water!
Week five:
Things have returned to normality this week, with no play rehearsals to fit in! In English, we have been creating our own persuasive leaflets- with the aim of persuading somebody to visit Ancient Egypt. The children are working incredibly hard and are blowing us away with their beautiful writing!
In Science, we have continued to look at solid, liquids and gases. On Friday, we used cereal to recreate images that demonstrated their particles.
