Week 6: 18/5/26.
This week, a team of Year 5/6 girls represented Manea brilliantly at a tag rugby tournament in Cambridge. The girls showed excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition and finished in an impressive 2nd place. We are incredibly proud of how well they worked together as a team and represented our school so positively.
In English, the children have been developing their persuasive and descriptive writing skills by creating restaurant reviews. They have been thinking carefully about vocabulary, structure and how to engage the reader with their opinions.
In Geography, we began our new topic on sustainability, discussing what sustainability means and exploring ways we can help protect our planet for future generations.
Meanwhile, in Maths, Year 6 have been working on an exciting theme park project. Children were given a budget of £5 million and had to carefully plan and design their own theme parks by purchasing rides and attractions within their budget. As part of the project, the children also had to apply their understanding of area and perimeter to accurately plan the layout of their parks and ensure everything fitted within the available space. This fantastic project encouraged the children to apply their mathematical skills in a real-life context while also being creative and thoughtful with their spending choices. Week 5: 14/5/26.
This week, the children in Years 5 and 6 have had an incredibly busy and productive week in class.
Our Year 5 children have been working hard with Miss Lockwood each morning, continuing their learning about angles in maths. They have also been developing a range of reading skills and practising their spellings with great focus and determination. It has been wonderful to see their confidence continue to grow across all areas of learning.
Meanwhile, our Year 6 children have shown fantastic resilience and maturity during their SATs week. Each morning, the children enjoyed having breakfast together before starting the day, which created a calm and positive atmosphere. Before the tests began, they also enjoyed games of dodgeball together, helping everyone feel energised and ready for the day ahead. The children have approached each test with a positive attitude and have worked extremely hard throughout the week — with just one more test to go! We are all very proud of the effort, determination and perseverance they have shown.
In the afternoons, the children have begun creating their sets for the animation The Maker. They have worked collaboratively in groups, sharing ideas and paying close attention to the small details to bring their creations to life. It has been lovely to see such creativity, teamwork and enthusiasm during these sessions, and we are excited to continue developing the project over the coming weeks.
Week 4 5/5/26
This week, the children have been incredibly busy across all areas of the curriculum and have shown fantastic determination and enthusiasm in their learning.
In English, the children have been writing and publishing their own narrative stories. They have worked extremely hard to develop their ideas, use ambitious vocabulary and create engaging plots for their readers. We have been so impressed with the creativity and effort shown throughout their writing.
In Maths, our Year 6 pupils have been working hard preparing for their SATs next week. They have shown great resilience, focus and maturity during their revision sessions and should be very proud of the effort they are putting in. Meanwhile, Year 5 have been exploring angles, developing their understanding of measuring, identifying and drawing different types of angles.
During our Topic lessons, the children have been learning about Fair Trade and discussing why it is important for producers and farmers around the world. They have enjoyed exploring how our choices can help support fair working conditions and sustainable practices.
In Art, the children have begun looking at set design. They have started to explore how scenery and props can help tell a story and create atmosphere within performances. We are excited to see their creative ideas develop over the coming weeks.

Week 3: 27.4.26.
This week, our Year 5 and 6 children have been working incredibly hard across the curriculum. Year 6 are continuing to prepare for their SATs with great determination and focus—we are so proud of their efforts and know they are going to do brilliantly.
In PE, the children have been enjoying tennis, with many choosing to continue playing during their break times, showing real enthusiasm for the sport. In Geography, they have been exploring global trade, learning about the UK’s key imports and exports and how goods move around the world.
On Wednesday, 12 children took part in a skipping ninja workshop in Wisbech. The children finished 2nd out of 7 schools in the competition element. They took part in lots of skipping activities throughout the day! they all received a skipping rope! Well done Team!
In English, pupils have been busy writing imaginative narratives inspired by the game Rock, Paper, Scissors, producing some creative and engaging stories. Meanwhile, in Art, the children have created special pieces for the upcoming Manea GALA. They are very excited for these to be displayed and can’t wait for you to see their fantastic work.
Week 2: 20.4.26.
It has been a busy and exciting time in Year 5 and 6! The children were thrilled to welcome Alice Sharpe, who led a series of fun and energetic fitness activities. The pupils showed fantastic enthusiasm and really enjoyed learning from an elite athlete.
On Thursday, the children took part in National Cricket Day, enjoying a brilliant session with Mr Bishop, who is also a qualified cricket coach. The sessions focused on developing key skills and, most importantly, having fun whilst being active.
In Maths, the Year 6 children have been working incredibly hard learning all about angles, showing great focus and determination in their lessons. A big well done also goes to our Year 5 pupils who represented the school brilliantly in a maths competition at Glebelands School.
In Art, both year groups have been busy creating fantastic pieces in preparation for the Gala later in the year—we can’t wait to see their work on display!
Week 1: 13.4.26.
We have been busy across all areas of our learning and have produced some fantastic work!
In English, we have been exploring an engaging animation as the inspiration for our writing. The children have developed their skills in describing both settings and characters, using rich and imaginative vocabulary. A key focus has been the “show, not tell” technique, where pupils practise describing emotions and actions without stating them directly. We have been really impressed with how the children are beginning to create vivid images for the reader through their writing.
In Maths, Year 5 pupils have been learning about area and perimeter. They have been measuring and calculating the space inside shapes as well as the distance around them, applying their knowledge to a range of problem-solving activities. Meanwhile, our Year 6 pupils have been working hard revising fractions, strengthening their understanding of equivalence, simplifying fractions, and performing calculations with increasing confidence.
In our topic lessons, we have explored what makes each of us unique, encouraging thoughtful discussions and personal reflection. In Geography, we have begun learning about trade and how goods are exchanged around the world, helping children understand global connections. In Art, the class has been developing their observational skills through still life drawing, carefully studying objects and representing them with increasing detail and accuracy. In RE, we started off our new unit with talking about what is important to us. The children discussed with a learning partner in what order would they rank thinks like: Love, honesty, the internet and others. It produced lots of great partner talk and class discussion. Also, our very keen playground helpers have been working super hard with sports coach Imogen to support key stage 1 during lunchtime play.
