Week 1: 13.4.26.
We have been busy across all areas of our learning and have produced some fantastic work!
In English, we have been exploring an engaging animation as the inspiration for our writing. The children have developed their skills in describing both settings and characters, using rich and imaginative vocabulary. A key focus has been the “show, not tell” technique, where pupils practise describing emotions and actions without stating them directly. We have been really impressed with how the children are beginning to create vivid images for the reader through their writing.
In Maths, Year 5 pupils have been learning about area and perimeter. They have been measuring and calculating the space inside shapes as well as the distance around them, applying their knowledge to a range of problem-solving activities. Meanwhile, our Year 6 pupils have been working hard revising fractions, strengthening their understanding of equivalence, simplifying fractions, and performing calculations with increasing confidence.
In our topic lessons, we have explored what makes each of us unique, encouraging thoughtful discussions and personal reflection. In Geography, we have begun learning about trade and how goods are exchanged around the world, helping children understand global connections. In Art, the class has been developing their observational skills through still life drawing, carefully studying objects and representing them with increasing detail and accuracy. In RE, we started off our new unit with talking about what is important to us. The children discussed with a learning partner in what order would they rank thinks like: Love, honesty, the internet and others. It produced lots of great partner talk and class discussion. Also, our very keen playground helpers have been working super hard with sports coach Imogen to support key stage 1 during lunchtime play.
Well done to everyone for their hard work and enthusiasm this week—we are very proud of all your efforts!
