Week 3: 15.5.26.
It has been another busy and exciting week for Year 5 and 6!
A huge thank you goes to our wonderful Year 6 helpers, who supported the children in EYFS and KS1 during Sports Day. They demonstrated fantastic leadership, kindness and encouragement, helping the younger pupils enjoy a memorable day of sporting activities.
In Maths, Year 6 have been preparing for their upcoming Enterprise Event. As part of their business projects, pupils have been developing ideas to make a profit and have begun raising funds this week by selling refreshing ice pops. We look forward to seeing their entrepreneurial skills in action at the event!
Unfortunately, our Year 5 and 6 cricket team were left disappointed after their cricket tournament was cancelled due to the rainy weather. The team had been looking forward to competing and showcasing their skills, but we hope they will have another opportunity to take to the field soon.
In Science, we have been exploring the forces of gravity and air resistance. The children have enjoyed investigating how these forces affect the movement of objects and have begun to develop their understanding of how different forces act upon us in everyday life.
Week 2: 12.6.26.
This week has been another busy and exciting one in Year 5/6!
In English, we have begun exploring non-chronological reports about the Galápagos Islands. The children have been learning about the unique wildlife, fascinating habitats and geographical features of these famous islands. They have enjoyed researching different animals and identifying the key features that make an effective non-chronological report. We are looking forward to seeing their own reports develop over the coming weeks.
One of the highlights of the week was Sports Day. The children represented their colours brilliantly, demonstrating excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. It was wonderful to see everyone giving their best effort, encouraging their peers and enjoying the opportunity to take part in a range of events. We were incredibly proud of the positive attitudes shown by all the children.
Another memorable experience this week was our visit to the Imperial War Museum Duxford. The children had the opportunity to explore the museum, learn about the history of aviation and see a range of impressive aircraft up close. They asked thoughtful questions and represented the school exceptionally well throughout the visit. The trip provided a fantastic opportunity to bring our learning to life and create lasting memories.
Well done to everyone for another fantastic week of learning and achievement!
Week 1 W/C 1.6.26
What a busy first week back it has been in Upper Key Stage 2!
The children have been working incredibly hard as they prepare for our Science Fair on Friday. This week, they have been exploring how animals have adapted to survive in their environments and have carried out a range of investigations to observe these adaptations in action. We are looking forward to sharing their fantastic work at the Science Fair.
Alongside our science learning, all classes have been busy rehearsing for their end-of-term productions. There is already lots of excitement building, and the children are putting in a tremendous amount of effort to learn their lines, songs and stage directions.
In English, we have continued our work on persuasive writing through the context of restaurant reviews. The children have been developing their ability to write in an authoritative tone by carefully selecting ambitious and appropriate vocabulary to influence their readers.
In Mathematics, Year 6 have begun an exciting enterprise project where they will apply their mathematical skills in a real-world context. Meanwhile, Year 5 have been revising long multiplication and have now started their work on decimals, building on their understanding of place value and number.
Year 6 also had the exciting opportunity to visit the local fire station as part of a safety awareness event. Throughout the day, the children explored a range of important safety topics, including water safety, internet safety, first aid, fire safety, product safety and road safety. They engaged enthusiastically with all of the activities and discussions, demonstrating maturity and a willingness to learn valuable life skills. The children represented the school exceptionally well and should be proud of the positive attitude, behaviour and respect they showed throughout the visit.
Tomorrow promises to be another exciting day as we take part in a Sports Day rehearsal and showcase our learning at the Science Fair. We can't wait to share our achievements and celebrate all of the hard work that has taken place this week!
