Summer 1

Week one:

What an amazing first week of the Summer term we have had. We have started our new topic of Ancient Egypt, and looked at instructions in English "How to mummify your best friend". We have enjoyed thinking about the gruesome steps of mummification- especially hooking their brains out through their nose!

In Science, we have continued our work on Electricity, and have considered what is needed to make a circuit light! We have also thought about conductors and insulators and were surprised that a spoon could conduct electricity!

Week two:

It has been an exceptionally busy week in year three/four, and has been jam packed full of sports!

On Monday we were visited by an athlete who led us in some very exciting exercises. As Thursday was National Cricket day, Mr Bishop taught us a cricket session in the sun, we had a lot of fun, and lots of us were great at hitting the ball.

We have been looking at levers in DT and have constructed some lovely model to explore how things work.

Week three:

This term, the children have been enjoying reading the wonderful book The Boy Who Grew Dragons. We have loved following Tomas and his exciting adventures as he discovers a very unusual dragon fruit tree in his grandad’s garden!

As part of our work linked to the story, the children used their imaginations to design their very own dragons. They thought carefully about their dragon’s appearance, special powers, habitat, personality and even what it likes to eat. The children showed fantastic creativity and produced some incredibly imaginative designs.

Week four:

This week, even-though a shorter one because of the bank holiday, has been very fun-filled and busy.

In Maths, the Year 4s have continued to be working incredibly hard on their times table check that's coming up. They are thriving using the laptops to practise, including completing times table themed blookets! The Year 3s have been learning about days, weeks and months in the year - using rhymes and songs to help them.

In English, the children have been writing some fabulous instructions on how to mummify their best friends! They have very much enjoyed this unit of writing; however, some have also found this a little gruesome!

In DT this term, the children have been working hard on their linkages and levers unit, where they have been practising moving objects. They've been completing practical tasks, experimenting the best ways to do this - where they first of all created a moving hand and then moved on to make a snapping crocodile. This week, the children will be starting to create an Ancient Egyptian moving poster (pictures will follow once complete!)

Week five:

It’s been a creative week in Years 3 and 4! In English, we have been exploring the characters of Pete and Elliott from Pete’s Dragon and creating some fantastic descriptive writing. We thought carefully about their appearance, personalities, and emotions, using exciting vocabulary to bring the characters to life. To help inspire our ideas, we also created some wonderful artwork, which helped us think of imaginative and creative words for our writing.

In Art, we have been busy designing our own 1950s toy shop windows in preparation for the Gala competition. We have been learning about toys from the past and using this inspiration to create colourful and detailed displays. The children have shown fantastic creativity and enthusiasm, and we are looking forward to seeing the finished results!
