Year 1:
What a fantastic start to the new term! This week, the children have jumped straight back into their learning with great enthusiasm.
In English, we began our new book Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson. We’ve met lots of different animals who are helping the little monkey search for his mum. Each day, we’ve been focusing on a different section of the story, which has kept us excited to find out what happens next!
In Maths, our focus has been on subtraction. We explored a range of strategies to help us solve subtraction problems and had lots of fun creating our own subtraction stories using the First, Then, and Now boards.
In Topic, we started our new unit on Seasonal Changes. To kick things off, we went on an autumn scavenger hunt around the school grounds to spot the many signs of autumn — from colourful leaves to acorns!
We were also very lucky on Wednesday afternoon to take part in a golf experience, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
It’s been a busy, exciting, and fun-filled first week back — and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
Year 2
This week in maths we have been subtracting. We have been subtracting from multiples of 10 and across a ten. We have been learning a new concept to exchange a 10 for ten ones.
In English we have been consolidating our knowledge of the place value of punctuation and grammar. We have been identifying verbs, subjects and leftovers.
This week in DT, we started investigating free-standing structures. We walked around the school to find different free-standing structures that are at school. We found benches, walls and climbing frames.
In Computing, we started thinking about what technology is and what is can be used for. In the classroom, we have a laptop, tablets and an interactive whiteboard.
In RE, we have started thinking about Christmas! We learnt that advent is an important time of the year for Christians as they prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
We have been thinking about the Seasons in Science this week. We are in Autumn and have been on a scavenger hurt to find autumnal items such as leaves, sticks and acorns.
In PSHE, we have started thinking about Anti-Bullying. We have been talking about our friendships and how sometimes we can fall out but that we can work together to solve problems.
