Autumn 1

Week 8: 20.10.25

What a busy and exciting week it has been in Oak, Fir and Maple Class!

In writing, the children have worked extremely hard to produce their final drafts of their Non-Chronological Reports about the Jovian planets. The effort and pride they have taken in presenting their work has been wonderful to see — their reports are packed full of fascinating facts about these giant planets!

In maths, Year 6 have been exploring fractions, learning how to add and subtract them with confidence, while Year 5 have been focusing on multiples and factors. Everyone has shown great perseverance and teamwork in solving tricky problems and sharing their mathematical reasoning.

This week also brought a fantastic opportunity to try something new — Korfball! The children had a wonderful afternoon learning the rules of the game and practising their throwing and catching skills. There were smiles all round and plenty of friendly competition!

In Design and Technology, all three classes have continued building their moving vehicles. It’s been brilliant to see so much creativity and problem-solving as the children work together to bring their designs to life.

Well done, Oak, Fir and Maple — another week full of curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning!

Week 7 13.10.25

What a brilliant week we have had! On Monday, we celebrated all things magical on Magical Manea Day. We all came in dressed in a fabulous costume and participated in some fun activities. First, we discovered a fairy door had appeared in our classrooms. We spent the morning thinking about who or what lived behind the doors and wrote character descriptions. We then gathered sticks, leaves and other natural objects to build our own fairy doors.

On Wednesday, half of Year 5/6 went on their residential trip to Kingswood (details to follow next week). For those of us staying at school, we have been celebrating space. We created water colour planets, racing rockets and have even created space models using recycling.

It has been a busy, but fantastic week.

Week 6: 6.10.25

This week, we have been continuing to explore the features of a non-chronological report. We’ve been working hard to include expanded noun phrases and use possessive apostrophes correctly in our writing. To put our skills into practice, we’ve started researching the Jovian planets—discovering fascinating facts about Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune to include in our own reports.

We were thrilled to be visited by the amazing Wonderdome! The immersive experience allowed us to see space like never before, bringing our learning about the solar system to life. Back in the classroom, we’ve continued our work in Design and Technology, designing and creating shells for our very own moon rovers—ready for their upcoming missions!

Week 5: 29.9.25

In English this week we have started to focus on non-chronological reports. We started by identifying the key features and then moved on to look at introductions and the use of sub-headings.  In Maths, Year 5 have been concentrating on addition and subtraction, while Year 6 have been working incredibly hard tackling long division.

In Science, we have created fact files about the solar system, while in Geography we have thought about how the movement of the Earth affects the seasons. In DT, we have started construction on the bases for our Mars rovers and in Computing lessons we have been designing our own games on Scratch. In PHSE, the children have created ground rules for our school in terms of being respectful and keeping our school clean and tidy. The children enjoyed taking pictures to model these behaviours to the rest of the school.

We also enjoyed a visit from a story teller on Thursday, who shared some of her favourite Myths and epic tales.

Week 4: 22.9.25

This week, Years 5 and 6 have been busy building their skills across the curriculum! In English, the children have continued to develop their understanding of place value in grammar, strengthening their foundations for confident writing. In Maths, Year 5 have been focusing on rounding numbers, while Year 6 have been working hard on multiplying 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers.

In PE, the children have really enjoyed taking part in our dodgeball and football units, showing great teamwork and energy. Over in DT, they’ve been busy designing and creating prototypes for their very own Mars rovers – we can’t wait to see these ideas come to life! In Geography, the classes explored time zones around the world, developing their understanding of how time differs across continents.

It’s been a fantastic week of learning and creativity – well done everyone!

Week 3: WC: 15.9.25

This week, Year 5 and 6 have shown fantastic effort and enthusiasm across all subjects. In English, the children have been creating detailed maps to deepen their understanding of the characters and settings in our class reader The Which Way to Anywhere. In Computing, they’ve been enjoying coding projects on Scratch, building their skills and creativity. During PE, the focus has been on developing tactics in a variety of invasion games, with teamwork and strategy at the heart of every session. In Maths, all classes are becoming increasingly secure in their understanding of place value — a great foundation for the year ahead. In DT the children have been learning and improving their woodwork skills. To finish the week we have Peter the rabbit from Peterborough FC visit us.

Week 2: 8.09.25

In English this week we have been exploring the different types of verbs and when we should use them. We know we must think about plurals and tenses to ensure that our sentences are written correctly. We have continued to explore the text 'Which way to anywhere' and have been busy using our skills of retrieval.

In maths year 5 have been looking at numbers up to 1,000,000 and exploring the place value of these digits.

In our topic sessions we have started looking at space in Science, continued to develop programming skills and discussed Milestones in R.E.

We had an exciting day at school when The Skipping Ninja came to visit! The day began with a lively whole-school assembly where we were amazed by incredible skipping tricks and inspiring stories about perseverance and fitness. Afterwards, each year group enjoyed their own hands-on skipping workshop. Pupils learned new skills, from basic moves to impressive tricks, and everyone left buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. It was a fantastic way to promote fitness, fun, and teamwork across the school!

Week 1: 1.09.25

This week the children have been busy learning the new routines of their classrooms.

In English we have explored expectations of presentation, nouns and developing our use of dictionaries.

In Maths the children have all been exploring place value and understanding the value of digits within 3-7 digit numbers.

In topic we have started our geography work and have been exploring how the earth spins and what this means.
