Spring 1

Week 5: 2.2.26.

This week the children from both year groups took part in a CPR workshop, where they learned how to deliver vital life saving treatment to someone. The children all listened amazingly and knew the importance of the workshop.

In PE, Year 6 again enjoyed an excellent gymnastics lesson with Imogen. Their improvement over the weeks has been wonderful to witness and Imogen always states how much she enjoys teaching them every week in her words " this is my favourite lesson of the week".

In Maths, both year groups have been working hard on division and decimals.

Next week looks like a jam packed week and we can't wait to share more amazing achievements.

Week 4: 26.1.26

🌟 Year 5 & 6 Weekly Blog – Another Fantastic Week of Learning! 🌟

Year 5 and 6 have had a very busy and exciting week, packed full of learning across the curriculum!

In Science, the children carried out a hands-on investigation to test which materials are the best insulators. They wrapped cups in different materials and measured how well each one kept the water warm. This helped them decide which material would be most suitable for a coffee shop owner to use on takeaway cups. The children worked carefully, recorded results accurately and made sensible conclusions based on their findings.

In English, the children have been writing an engaging introduction to a narrative inspired by As the Sky Falls. They focused on setting the scene, introducing characters and creating atmosphere to hook the reader. There was lots of thoughtful discussion about word choices and how to make their writing impactful.

In Art, creativity was in full flow as the children created their own poetry zines. They took inspiration from a poem about World War 2 and combined poetry, illustration and thoughtful design.

In History, the children learned about how World War 2 started, exploring its causes and consequences. They also looked at how the war impacted Britain, including everyday life for people at the time. The children asked insightful questions and showed a growing understanding of this important period in history.

In R.E, the children explored key ideas from humanist thinkers. They discussed what humanists believe, how these ideas guide their choices, and how they compare with religious viewpoints. The lessons encouraged respectful discussion and thoughtful reflection.

Well done, Year 5 and 6, for another week of excellent effort, curiosity and teamwork. We are very proud of you!

Week 3: 19.1.26.

This week, Year 5 and 6 have been thoroughly enjoying their learning about World War II, particularly exploring the impact of Hitler’s rise to power and how it shaped events across Europe. In English, we have launched our exciting new writing unit focused on characterising speech, with the children beginning to develop ideas around surviving an air raid. In Science, pupils have been busy preparing for an experiment taking place next week, where they will be testing which materials are best at keeping drinks warm. In PE, we once again enjoyed a fantastic gymnastics lesson led by Imogen—it was lovely to see the children confidently performing some impressive and creative moves.

Week 2: 12.1.26.

This week the children have been hard at work planning and writing their instructions on 'How to survive an air raid'. The children are very curious about this terms topic and asking many questions to develop their understanding of World War 2.

Year 6 experienced a Rock assembly! we had lots of fun.

The year fives have began their swimming lessons this week and it has been pleasing to see how the children have developed since last year. We are very proud of them.

8 Key stage 2 children attended a panathlon sports event in March - they took part in activities such as: boccia, basketball, Messi football, table cricket, bowling and polly bat. They did so well and WON the event! well done to the children that took part.

In art they have been investigating marks found in a range of artworks and recreating these in their sketchbooks.

Week 1: 5.1.26.

Year 5 and 6 enjoyed an exciting start to the week with snowfall, making the most of the wintry weather and sharing lots of enthusiasm and smiles. In History, we have begun our new WWII unit, and the children have been highly engaged, showing real curiosity as they learn about the events that shaped the world we live in today.

In PE, we were delighted to welcome Imogen, a specialist gymnastics coach, who taught us a range of linked balances. The children then worked creatively to design and perform their own sequences, demonstrating teamwork, control and imagination.

In PSHE, we have started creating an ‘All About Me’ envelope. The children are encouraged to bring in photos and items that represent things they are proud of, helping them to celebrate their achievements and learn more about one another.
