This week, the children have been thinking creatively, where they have planned and written beautiful poems all about Spring for our Poetry Challenge across school.
The children were given the following stimulus:
It has been a long, quiet winter.
One morning, the school gate creaks open
And something feels... different.
The air smells fresh.
The ground is soft and damp.
A tiny splash of colour peeks out from the soil.
Spring has arrived.
They had to go off and brainstorm their own ideas, to plan and create their own poems based on Spring. They worked hard to try to include similes and alliteration. Once they had drafted their poems, they wrote them out in neat with pen and then added some illustrations. Please see examples below:
We have had a busy week! We were delighted to welcome the East Anglian Air Ambulance into school this week. The children took part in an engaging and informative session where they learned about the vital work of the air ambulance team and were taught the basics of CPR. It was a valuable opportunity for pupils to develop important life-saving skills and ask thoughtful questions about helping others in an emergency.
This week, Year 3/4 have been working incredibly hard in gymnastics. They have been creating and performing their own sequences, with a strong focus on jumps and turns. The children showed great control, balance, and creativity and were excellent at trying new movements and improving their techniques.
They have thoroughly enjoyed creating their collages. The children experimented with a range of materials, colours and textures, showing great creativity and enthusiasm throughout the process.
Well done to all the children for their enthusiasm and excellent learning this week!
We have had another busy week this week. We have continued to work hard in our gymnastic sessions with Imogen, and have enjoyed working in teams to create different balances and shapes.
In our Computing sessions, we looked at the benefits of computer programs. With a partner, one of us painted a tree using the water colour paints, whilst the other used a computer program. It was interesting to compare results.
Year 3/4 have had a very busy and enjoyable week! In Geography, we have been learning all about the water cycle! We have learnt all about condensation, evaporation, precipitation, vapour and water vapour. We have used a very catchy song to help us learn the different components of the cycle.
In English, we have been working hard to plan our portal stories, inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia. We have created our own main characters and mapped out a problem and resolution. We will be writing these over the next week!
Year 3/4 have had a very busy and enjoyable week! Year 3 had an exciting time in maths, where they worked brilliantly together to solve escape games, using their problem-solving and reasoning skills. Both Year 3 and Year 4 have also really enjoyed gymnastics in PE, practising balances, rolls and sequences with great enthusiasm. Well done to everyone for their hard work and positive attitudes this week!
Spring One News
Week one:
What an amazing first week back we have had. We worked hard in all of our lessons. In English we create some fabulous news reports based on our key text, 'The Lion, the witch and the Wardrobe'. In topic, we have learnt new sewing techniques to create our own stone age pouches.
On Thursday, some of us went away on residential and were an absolute credit to the school. Everyone behaved amazingly, worked hard as a team and developed their independence skills too (even having a go at making their own beds).
When we got there, we got to know the grounds- and had fun playing on some of the equipment.
We then completed lots of team work challenges and earned lots of 'coins' for our amazing team work skills. We then purchased materials to protect and egg- and dropped it off of the fire exit staircase. Even though our designs were great, only one survived the fall!
The next day, we worked in the film studio and filmed our news reports. The children each had a role- and took this very seriously, working on camera skills, using green skill images and adding sound.
We also created our own enamel keyrings. We were so proud of all of the children- what an amazing time we all had.
Those children that stayed at school also had an amazing time- when they discovered a dragon had visited the school. They filmed their own news reports, made some dragon cookies and created their own inventions to protect them from a dragon attack.
