WB: 10.11.25

Year 1:

This week in Year 1, we’ve had a wonderful time continuing our story Monkey Puzzle! The children loved acting out the story and becoming all the different animals — it was such fun! Afterwards, they did a fantastic job labelling pictures of the animals and talking about what each one does.

In Maths, we’ve been working hard on both addition and subtraction, sometimes even in the same lesson! It was a bit tricky at first, but everyone showed great perseverance and determination.

In our Topic lessons, we made our very own rain gauges in Science to help us observe and record the autumn weather — perfect for our ongoing seasonal studies!

In PSHE, we watched a video all about anti-bullying and continued to think about kindness and respect, especially after taking part in odd sock day on Monday.

Year 2

This week in English we have started looking at non-chronological reports. Over the next few weeks, we will be writing our own non-chronological reports based on woodland creatures. We started our learning by identifying the different features such as the title, subheadings, facts and pictures.

In maths, we have been continuing our work on addition and subtraction. We have been using resources to represent the tens and ones in a number before adding on. We have been practising exchanging when we make a group of 10 out of the ones.

This week in DT, we began investigating how to join materials together. We made tables out of card and paper and added the legs in different ways - using tabs, sticking and using holes and wire. In computing, we have been identifying the different parts of a computer or laptop. We used the Chrome Books to practise logging on and shutting down the device. In Science, we continued thinking about the seasons with a focus on Autumn. We thought about what the weather has been like and how we can record the weather. We set up an experiment to collect rain water and we are going to check back to see how much rain there has been.
