Year 1
What a magical week we’ve had in Year 1!
On Monday, we celebrated Magical Manea Day and it was wonderful to see all the children dressed up — the classroom really did feel full of magic! We took part in Magic Phonics, and in English, we drew our own fairy doors and gardens that had magically appeared over the weekend. We focused on the words window, door and house, and even wrote special codes about what would happen to our houses when we counted to three — some disappeared, some grew butterflies, and others jumped! In Maths, we made a magic bean potion, just like in Jack and the Beanstalk, and enjoyed listening to the story together. After lunch, we crafted our very own magic wands and learned how to draw a wizard – what a lot of fun! Please take a look at our photos.
The children have also been working so hard learning their Harvest poems and songs ready for our assembly next week – we can’t wait to see you all there!
In Maths this week, we’ve been exploring number bonds to 10, using cubes to help us see how the numbers fit together.
It’s been such a busy and exciting week in Year 1 – only one more week to go before we all enjoy a well-deserved break!
Year 2
On Monday morning, we arrived to find a fairy door in our classroom! We also found a letter explaining that some fairies had lost their power and needed our help. Luckily for the fairies, it was Magical Manea Day so Beech Class were quick to help! Throughout the day, we took part in writing based upon the magical door, what it looked like and what could be the other side. We also completed some magical maths using symbols relating to numbers to work out the answer to different questions. In the afternoon, we took part in some drawing sessions and drew a unicorn and a kitten dragon. We also all learnt how to cast some magic spells!
In maths for the rest of the week, we continued our addition work. We have been thinking about how we can add on to make 10 using a partitioning method and also how to add three 1-digit numbers.
In English this week, we have been continuing our work on the Place Value of Punctuation and Grammar. We have been focussing on the subject in sentences and how pronouns can be used to reduce the repetition of names.
