Year 1
In Maths, Year 1 have been busy exploring the concepts of fewer, more and the same to compare different groups of objects. The children had lots of fun taking part in a hands-on activity where they were each given a random number between 1 and 10 on a post-it note, then built a tower of cubes to match their number. We also practised counting backwards and finding one less than a given number within 10 – great skills for building number confidence!
In English, we continued our work on The Smeds and The Smoos. This week’s focus was on imagining the journey to the planet Vumjum and identifying the types of flowers we might see along the way. The children used their creativity to come up with some wonderful colour words to describe these imaginary blooms.
In PSHE, our discussions centred around the rules we follow at school and how they help us feel safe and happy. It was heartwarming to hear how much the children value kindness and looking after one another. They shared how these values help everyone feel safe and included in our school community.
Take a look at our photos to see all the fantastic learning and fun we've had this week!
Year 2
This week in maths we have continued our number and place value topic. We have still been thinking about 2-digit numbers, how many tens and ones there are in a number and where to place these numbers on a number line.
In English, we had a special lesson on Monday and joined an online session with Julia Donaldson. She spoke to us about her new book called Paper Chase. We all had a go at drawing one of the characters, Ginger.
We have also been writing captions this week and have thought carefully about what we can see happening in different images. Our Drawing Club lesson this week was based on Pirate Pete. We really enjoyed reading this as we could change it as we went along to alter the story!
In art this week, we continued creating spirals, this time to make bright and colourful snail shell designs. In RE, we thought again about harvest and who people thank during this time of year. Our science this week focussed on the diets of different animals.
