This week in English, we began learning about non-chronological reports using the topic of wolves. We discussed what information is needed and explored key vocabulary linked to our three subheadings: Where do they live?, What do they look like? and What do they eat?. We also practised using common exception words that will help us with our writing. Towards the end of the week, we started thinking about the title and introduction we would like to use for our own reports.
In Maths, we focused on adding within 20. We practised adding ones, using and making number bonds within 20, and ended the week by learning about doubles and near doubles.
In Science, our topic has been exercise and how it affects the body. We were able to use our knowledge from PE to support our learning and took part in lots of physical activity to help us understand how exercise helps to keep us healthy.
In Art, we began planning our final piece of artwork. We explored and chose colours using primary and secondary colours and discussed the different simple print-making styles we would like to use.
It has been a busy and enjoyable week of learning for Year 1!
Year 2
This week in maths we have continued our multiplication and division unit. We have been looking at doubling and halving as well as solving multiplication and division questions based on the 5 and 10 times tables.
In English, we finished our plans for our own versions of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We changed the character and setting but used the idea of the repetitive story. We began writing the story this week and will get it all finished off next week.
In art this week, we created our printing and rubbing work based on the ideas that we planned last week. We used our designs to think about what needed to be on the plate to print with and the colours that we wanted to use.
In RE, we have continued learning about Hinduism. This week we thought about ahimsa – this means non-violence. We learnt how some Hindu people follow this practice by being vegetarian or by offering things to those in need.
In science this week, we identified how changes occur as we grow. We worked together to collect data about the size of people’s hands and questioned if the oldest person always had the biggest hand.
Our PSHE this week focussed on our community again and the role of the media as part of this. We looked at how messages can be shared in the community and how we share messages as a school.
We have had a fantastic week in Beech Class and have all worked extremely hard!
