Year 1:
In English, we have been exploring the story The Smeds and the Smoos. The children have really enjoyed discovering what life might be like on planet Vumjum, especially thinking about the different characters they might meet there. We’ve had lots of fun reading the story together and learning an important message – that everyone can play together, no matter how different they might seem. The children have shown great understanding of friendship and choice.
In Maths, we have been working hard on comparing numbers. We’ve been using the language of greater than, less than, and equal to, and have been practising how to spot which numbers are bigger or smaller. It’s been lovely to see how confident the children are becoming with this!
In Science, we learned all about the human body. We had so much fun drawing around each other and then labelling the different parts of the body. It was a great hands-on way to help us remember all the names – and we’ve created some fantastic work together!
In PSHE, we talked about rules – who makes them and why we have them. The children had thoughtful discussions about the rules we follow in school, and decided that both adults and children work together to make sure everyone feels safe, happy, and respected.
Year 2
In English this week, we started our Place Value of Punctuation and Grammar unit of work. We started this by finding out about common and proper nouns. We labelled pictures with the different objects that we could see if we used the general name for something, we knew it was a common noun. If we used a specific name, it would need a capital letter and was a proper noun.
In maths this week we have been comparing and ordering objects and numbers. We have been identifying which group has the most or fewest and using the inequality symbols to compare them. We have also worked in groups to order numbers, thinking about the value of the tens, then the ones.
In art, we created our own sketchbooks. We used our interests as well as spirals to decorate these.
In RE this week, we thought about why Harvest is important to Christians and created stained glass window images.
In science, we thought about the parts of the human body and labelled these on a life-size drawing!
