WB: 24.11.25

This week in English, we began our new topic on place value, punctuation and grammar. The children were introduced to two types of nouns: common nouns and proper nouns. They learned that common nouns name general groups of people, places and things, while proper nouns refer to one specific person, place or thing — and must always begin with a capital letter. We were especially impressed when the children realised that their own names are proper nouns! This can be a tricky concept, but Year 1 have done brilliantly.

In Maths, we focused on 2D shapes. The children enjoyed identifying 2D shapes in real-life objects and had great fun “feeding the shape monsters” with the correct items. By the end of the week, they were confidently creating their own repeating patterns using 2D shapes.

Year 1 have also been very busy working on their Enterprise products. They can’t wait for you to see their creations on Monday — and hopefully take home some of their wonderful items!

Well done, Year 1 — what a busy and fantastic week!

Year 2

This week in English we have been planning and writing our Non-Chronological Reports. Have a look at the photos below to see our amazing writing!

In maths, we have completed our addition and subtraction unit. We have been comparing number sentences and finding missing numbers.

This week we created our Enterprise products – Snowman and Reindeer jars. We painted the jars before adding details such as eyes, carrot nose and antlers made of pipe cleaners.

In Science this week, we were looking at shadows and how they change. Unfortunately, it was a very cloudy day so we could not collect much data. We used a torch to see how the length of the shadow changes depending on if the light source is closer to or further away from the object. We are going to try this experiment again in the Spring when hopefully, we will have a bit more sunlight!

In PSHE, we identified our trusted adults and the people that we would talk to if we were worried about something; including bullying.
