Year 1
This week in English, we introduced our new class book A Squash and a Squeeze. The children were captivated by the story and thoroughly enjoyed discovering the order in which each animal entered the old lady’s house. They were even able to explain why a particular animal was their favourite, using thoughtful reasoning. We’re excited to continue exploring this fun and engaging book over the coming weeks.
In Maths, the children have been working on ordering numbers from 0 to 10 in a variety of ways. They confidently used vocabulary such as "greater than" and "less than" before being introduced to number lines. One of the highlights of the week was a fun dice activity where they rolled a number and placed it on the number line. The children cleverly noticed that the dice only went up to 6, which helped them figure out which numbers were missing. It was a fantastic way to apply their number knowledge!
In Science, our topic focused on the five senses. The children explored hearing, sight, smell, touch, and taste through a range of hands-on activities. A few even thought the playdough smelled like beetroot! The session was full of curiosity and laughter, and the children especially enjoyed learning a new song to help them remember each of the five senses.
Year 2
This week in Maths, we have been practising counting in multiples of 2, 5, 10 and 3! We have used resources to represent the numbers in each of these times tables. Today we started our new maths unit of Addition and Subtraction. We have been showing number bonds to 10 in different ways.
In English this week, we have continued our work on the place value of punctuation and grammar. We began thinking about verbs as both being verbs and action verbs. On Thursday, we had a special English lesson and had a story-telling session with a visitor.
In Science this week, we explored our 5 senses. We had a range of objects and thought about what they looked, felt, smelt and sounded like.
In art, we used observational skills to draw shells using a continuous line. This was very tricky but we were resilient and kept trying our best.
