Maths

This week in maths, Year 1 have continued their unit on addition and subtraction within 10. They have been using number lines to show calculations and even drew giant number lines outside. The children have worked hard to identify the symbols in number sentences to work out what they need to do.

Year 2 have also been working on their addition and subtraction unit. They have been thinking about their knowledge of number bonds to 10 to help with subtraction questions and have been using a range of resources such as hundred squares and rekenreks to support their work.

English

In English, the focus has again been on the Place Value of Punctuation and Grammar. This week, we have been focussing on identifying verbs, subjects and 'left overs'. We have also been working to include pronouns in our writing to reduce repeating nouns.

Topic

We have started our new History topic this week of Kings, Queens and Castles. We have already been thinking about how we find out about events from the past, why Kings and Queens live in castles and how they can protect people. As well as this, we started to look at key historical monarchs and began learning about Queen Elizabeth II.
