We have had a wonderful first week back in Year 1 and it has been lovely to see all of the children’s smiling faces as we welcomed in 2026 together. The children have settled back into routines brilliantly and shown great enthusiasm across all areas of learning.
In English, we revisited our full independent clause sentence structure. The children practised identifying the subject and the verb, ensuring sentences were correctly punctuated with a capital letter and a full stop. We then began extending our sentences by adding “leftovers” to give more information and make our writing more interesting.
In Maths, we quickly refreshed our knowledge of numbers 1–10 before moving on to focus on numbers 0–20. The children enjoyed exploring what these numbers look like and the different ways they can be made, showing great engagement through hands-on activities.
In Topic, we began applying our retrieval skills from our learning about Animals Including Humans. We discussed the basic needs of humans and explored what essential items we would need if we were going on a backpacking journey.
In RE, we started our new learning about Hinduism. The children were introduced to the Puja tray, learning about the different items it contains and their importance. They were fascinated by the many interesting facts they discovered.
