WB: 6.10.25

Year 1

This week in English, Year 1 have started exploring their new model text A Squash and a Squeeze. To help learn the sequence of the story, the children stepped into character and acted out the different animals being invited into the old lady’s house. We had great fun becoming cows, pigs, goats and more, all while learning the order they appear in the story!

In Maths, the focus has been on addition facts and linking these to number bonds to 10. Before this, the children were introduced to the part-part-whole model and they were even allowed to draw their models straight onto the tables!

In Science, we explored the words similarity and difference. The children enjoyed comparing themselves with their peers to spot what they had in common and what made them unique. There was plenty of excitement – especially when we discovered two children wearing the exact same shoes!

Year 2

This week in maths, we have been using our place value knowledge to start thinking about addition and subtraction. We have used resources to work out number bonds to and within 20 before finding related facts to solve addition questions using multiples of ten.

In English, we have continued our place value of punctuation and grammar unit and have started thinking about the subject in a sentence. We know that the subject is the star of the show. It is what the sentence is about.

In RE this week, we visited the field to make our own Sukkah as part of our learning about Sukkot. We learnt that the Sukkah is decorated and people eat, pray and sleep inside it.

This week in Science, we compared humans. We thought about what was the same and different between ourselves and our peers.

On Thursday, we were lucky enough to visit the Wonderdome! We travelled under the oceans, to the moon and even went on a rollercoaster around space (all whilst staying in the hall!)
