In Maths we’ve been working hard on understanding and identifying number digits and matching them to their written words. We’ve also continued to strengthen our counting skills, representing numbers in a variety of creative ways.
In writing, the children were introduced to their new book The Smeds and the Smoos as part of our new unit on lists and captions. They’ve really enjoyed getting to know the characters, and we’re looking forward to exploring the story further over the coming weeks.
As part of our topic work, we’ve been learning all about our responsibilities both at school and at home. The children had lots of fun bringing these ideas to life through role play activities.
Well done, Year 1 – keep up the great work!
Year 2
We have had such a busy week in Beech Class!
In maths, we have been partitioning numbers to 100, we started by partitioning into tens and ones and moved on to partitioning in different ways.
In English this week, we started our new topic of Labels, Lists and Captions. We have been labelling images and spotting labels around the classroom, have created lists and used different headings for our lists too. Next week, we will focus on writing captions.
In topic this week, we started thinking about what harvest is and why it is important. We continued our work on animals in Science by identifying what makes animals similar or different. In art we drew spirals of different colours and sizes, we even drew enormous spirals outside on the playground.
