WB: 9.2.26

Year 1

What a fantastic end to the term Year 1 have had!

In Writing, the children have finished planning their non-chronological reports about wolves. They have beautifully presented their work and included a carefully labelled diagram showing what a wolf looks like. I am so incredibly proud of the effort they have put into their writing, and I’m sure you will be too. Please take a look at the photos of their wonderful work!

In Maths, we have been focusing on subtraction. The children have been subtracting ones using number bonds, finding the difference, and solving counting back problems. They have shown great determination and are becoming much more confident with their subtraction skills.

In Science, we explored healthy eating. The children had lots of fun learning about the variety of foods available and sorting them into healthy and unhealthy groups. They had some brilliant discussions and showed a good understanding of how to make healthy choices.

Year 1 have also worked really hard on their phonics this week, and this is clearly showing in their reading and writing.

Well done, Year 1, for a fantastic term! Have a lovely week off, and we look forward to seeing you all back for Spring 2.

Year 2

This week in English, we finished writing our own versions of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have also edited and published our work to create our own class story book. We have also been looking at Spring poetry and have had a go at writing own our poems inspired by Spring.

In maths, we have completed our multiplication and division unit. We have been thinking about dividing by 5 and the links between the 5 and 10 times-tables. We have also had a go at some problem solving and had a recap on addition and subtraction.

In art this week, we put our final pieces together after creating them last week. We needed to wait for the paint to dry before adding our rubbings to create our collages. We also evaluated our work by thinking about what went well and what we would change if we completed rubbings and printing again.

In RE, we finished our unit on Hinduism. We found out about the Raksha Bandhan celebrations; celebrating siblings. We then thought back to all of our learning about Hinduism to create a poster showing what we have learnt.

This Tuesday was Safer Internet Day. We thought about different technology that we use and in particular, voice assistants. We thought about all the good uses of voice assistants, but also about some problems that might occur when using them. We also identified what they can do that is the same as people, and what people can do but voice assistants cannot.
