WB:12.5.25

What a fantastic and busy week we've had across Year 1 and Year 2! Here's a snapshot of our learning highlights:

Year 1 have continued to focus on key features of diary writing, in preparation for starting their own entries next week. They've been learning how to write in the first person, use the past tense, and include adverbials of time. To bring their writing to life, the children stepped into the shoes (or rather, tiny feet!) of Vlad the rat, from our class book, as he experienced the Great Fire of London. This immersive activity really helped them understand what it was like to be there. Don’t forget to check out the wonderful photos!

Year 2 explored their five senses by imagining they were Boxton the flea, making his way through the bustling streets of London. They used this to plan for their upcoming diary writing next week – we can't wait to see what they come up with!

In maths, Year 1 started an exciting new unit on fractions. They began exploring the concept of a half and what it means in relation to shapes, objects, and quantities. They had great fun discovering that two equal parts make a whole!

Year 2 wrapped up their fractions unit, mastering how to find three-quarters and count in fractions up to a whole. Their hard work has really paid off – they are now true fraction experts!

The children worked together in a creative project to make stick people! They began with a stick hunt to find the perfect materials, then used a variety of resources to bring their characters to life. The results were amazing and full of personality!

Well done to all our children – such a busy and productive week! Keep up the fantastic work. We’re almost at half term now – not long to go!
