WB: 19.1.26

Year 1 have had another fantastic week of learning!

In English, the children became photo, book and video detectives, exploring a range of sources to discover fun and interesting facts about animals such as penguins and wolves. They have begun finding facts about wolves in preparation for writing their non-chronological reports in the coming weeks. The children will be using the subheadings What do wolves look like?, Where do they live? and What do they eat? They really enjoyed using different sources to help them learn new facts.

In Maths, we focused on the number 20. The children explored one more and one less within 0–20, used number lines, and practised counting confidently to 20 and backwards.

In PHSE, we talked about the different groups we belong to. The children shared information about groups they take part in outside of school, and it was lovely to hear all about these. We also discussed that we all belong to one very special group — Cherry Class!

In Art, we continued our work on simple print making. The children took part in a range of creative activities and had lots of fun exploring this technique.

Well done, Year 1, for another great week of learning!

Year 2

This week in English we have completed our Wanted Posters. We planned our writing, thinking about what the missing item could be, before writing and editing our work.

In maths, we began learning about multiplication and division. We started off by looking at different groups to identify if they were equal or unequal before moving on to use the multiplication symbol.

This week in RE, we have been continuing our learning about Hinduism. We have been thinking about worship outside of the home and in the Hindu temple; the Mandir. We created our own bright and colourful pictures that could be found in a Mandir.

In art this week, we used foam boards to create our own plates to print from. We used pencils to engrave patterns and shapes before printing using primary and secondary colours.

This week in Science, we have been thinking about animals and their offspring. We have identified different animals, what they were like as young animals and their offspring.

In PSHE we have been thinking about our community and the groups that we belong to. Some children in the class belong to Rainbows, some belong to football teams. We all belong to the group of Beech Class at Manea School. We have also been thinking about stereotypes and how this can affect the jobs that people have.
