WB:2.3.26

What a fantastic and busy week it has been in Year 1, especially as we celebrated World Book Day!

We began our week by focusing on repetition in our poetry unit. The children had great fun creating their own poems, and it was wonderful to see that some children were even inspired to write poems at home. We then used our knowledge of wolves from last term to create a poem all about a wolf. We added actions, expression and performed our poems confidently in front of our friends. Everyone did an amazing job! We especially loved celebrating World Book Day dressed as our favourite characters – the costumes were fantastic!

In Maths, we finished our place value unit, working with numbers from 0–50. The children have produced some amazing work and should be very proud of their progress. We ended the week by beginning our new topic of length and height. It can be tricky learning new mathematical vocabulary, but we are working hard to understand and remember what each word means.

In Topic this week, our Science lesson took us down to the school field to explore different plants and animals and to observe their habitats. We had lots of fun investigating the natural environment – even if it did involve lots of steps!

Well done, Year 1, for another brilliant week of learning. I absolutely loved seeing all your wonderful costumes on World Book Day!

Year 2

This week in English, we have continued thinking about the features of instructions. We have been learning how to write commands using imperative verbs and also using apostrophes for possession and omission. On Thursday, we began writing our instructions about how to look after a Storm Whale.

We had a great day on World Book Day and celebrated our love of reading. Everyone looked fantastic in their costumes!

In maths this week we finished our length and height unit. We have been using the four operations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve problems. We have also completed some NRICH problems using different lengths of sticks and paper.

In RE this week, we started learning about the 5Ks in Sikhism. These 5 items are important to Sikh’s and remind them of their religion and beliefs.

We conducted an investigation in science this week thinking about hygiene. We dipped our hand in glitter (pretending it was germs) and shook hands with other people in the class to see how the glitter (germs) spread around. We learnt about the importance of good hygiene and thought about how we can keep ourselves clean.

In PSHE, we thought about medicines and how they can help people. We identified that medicines can be used to stop people getting poorly, as well as making people better if they are already ill.

In DT, we designed our own vehicles. We used a design brief to make sure that they would be fit for purpose. Our vehicles need to have large wheels to travel over different terrains and needs to be camouflaged in the environment.
