Year 1 have had another fantastic and very busy week – and they truly deserve a big well done for all of their hard work! The children have been working incredibly hard in their phonics lessons every day, and we are already seeing a real improvement showing through in their reading and writing. 🌟
In English, we began the week by learning about irregular action verbs. The children learned that unlike regular verbs, these do not form the past tense by adding -ed. Later in the week, they enjoyed reviewing and revisiting the different types of verbs they have been learning about over the past few lessons.
In Maths, we focused on retrieving and strengthening our place value skills. The children had lots of fun creating bright and creative posters about their favourite number from 0–10. We also practised counting objects, counting forwards and backwards within 10, and comparing groups confidently.
In Topic, the children have been very busy preparing for our Nativity performance, practising the story in readiness for the big show next week – excitement is definitely building! Alongside this, they finished their DT projects and created some wonderful Autumn posters, showcasing what they have enjoyed learning about the season.
We have also loved starting each morning by discovering what our class elf has been up to overnight! The children’s excitement and curiosity when they walk into the classroom has been a real joy to see, and we are very much looking forward to the final week of his adventures together. 🎄✨
Well done, Year 1 – what a super busy and successful week! Only one more week until a well-earned break! ⭐
Year 2
This week in Year 2, the children have been busy writing their recount letters as Little Red Riding Hood. They have worked hard to include the key events and use time adverbials to order them. After writing, the children have edited and published their work.
In maths, we have continued learning about shape. We have been thinking about lines of symmetry, drawing shapes and counting the number of faces and edges on 3D shapes.
This week in DT, we completed our free-standing structure. We evaluated our work, checked the design brief and our success criteria and shared what we were proud of and what we would do differently.
In science this week, we consolidated our learning about Autumn. We thought about the changes we have seen over the past few weeks and how the weather has changed.
In PSHE, we thought about the things we are good at. We know that some people are good at things that other people find tricky. We have created a display to show what we are good at; we can add to this throughout the year!
