Year 1
In Writing, we began our new unit on instructional texts. We started by exploring the different features that make a good set of instructions. The children did a fantastic job creating their own rhetorical questions and expanding their nouns to give the reader much more detail and description. We came up with some brilliant noun phrases and I can’t wait to see what the children create when we begin planning our own instructional text on how to trap a wolf.
In Maths, we have been learning about measuring. The children used a range of measuring tools, including rulers and balancing scales, and took part in lots of practical investigations. We explored questions such as which objects are shorter or taller, and which are heavier or lighter, using some excellent mathematical vocabulary. Towards the end of the week, we introduced the words full and empty, and the children had great fun exploring capacity using water to help demonstrate the different amounts.
In History, we researched the lives of Charles Darwin and Neil Armstrong. The children thought carefully about what they would like to ask these famous figures and created their own thoughtful questions. Please take a look at the photos to see some of the wonderful questions the children came up with!
In DT, we have started creating our vehicles. The children have been measuring, designing, and carefully cutting out the base and roof of their vehicles. We are looking forward to continuing our work on these next week.
Well done, Year 1, for another busy and fun week of learning!
