This year we've introduced a school council to give pupils the opportunity to have their voices heard. The aim is for all pupil's to be able to identify the council members in their year groups and be able to make suggestions, raise concerns and share ideas with them, which members will then bring to meetings.
Our council members consist of four year 6 children, two year 5's, two year 4's and two year 3's. The members were elected in an anonymous voting process within their classes.
School council meetings will occur once a fortnight with Mrs Spencer and Mrs Stevens.
January 2025
This term, the council members have decided to focus on revolutionising lunchtimes.
They have worked together to create a questionnaire to find out how the children in their year groups feel lunchtimes could be improved. This includes questions about which activities they would like to do and what equipment they think we need. We will also be arranging a time where they can go into key stage 1 to find out the ideas of our younger students.
April 2025
The school council members have visited the children in Pine, Cherry and Beech classes to find out their views on what would make lunch times better for them. We've had lots of suggestions ranging from Lunch time Yoga to a Swing set and Pirate ship to play on. Now that they have spoken to all of the children across the school, we will be putting the answers together to determine the most popular suggestions.
During the Summer term the school council members will be thinking of ways that they can Fundraise in order to implement these ideas. So far, there has been talking of throwing wet sponges at teachers! Watch this space...
