This week in Maths, Year 1 have been revisiting numbers within 0–20, with a particular focus on ordering them from fewest to greatest. We began the week by comparing and ordering two numbers and, by the end of the week, the children were confidently ordering and comparing three numbers within 0–20.
In Writing, we started exploring non-chronological reports. The children learnt about the key features, including how a clear, eye-catching title goes at the top of the page to show the reader what the report is about. This learning is in preparation for our upcoming non-chronological report about a wolf, which we will begin writing very soon.
In Science, we enjoyed a hands-on activity where the children painted their hands to explore how our bodies change as we grow. This helped them understand why our hands change size throughout the human life cycle.
We finished the week with a lovely Forest School session. Despite the rainy weather, the children had lots of fun exploring the outdoors and ending the week with big smiles.
Year 2
This week in maths, we have continued our work on multiplication and division. We have been using arrays to solve problems and know that we can do this by looking at the rows or columns first. We have also been dividing by using methods of grouping and sharing.
In English, we have been thinking more about traditional tales, focussing on The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We started the week drawing a story map before acting the story out and sequencing events. We have now also started to plan our own version of the story.
This week in art we planned our final piece. We thought about the shapes we would use, how to create them using prints or rubbings and the colours to use. We are linking our work to our Geography topic of Mexico so needed to think carefully about how to make links to this.
In RE, we have been learning about aarti – the worship ceremony and prasada – an offering to Hindu Gods. During aarti, an aarti lamp is passed around in front of worshippers.
In science, we continued to think about animals and their offspring and created life-cycles to show the different stages of human life.
In PSHE this week, we thought about the people that help us in our community. We identified policemen, paramedics, teachers and firefighters.
