This week, the children in Year 1 and 2 have been busy exploring explanation texts in their writing lessons. They’ve been learning about the key features of this text type and understanding why we use them. Both year groups have impressed us by recalling lots of fascinating facts from their previous science learning to support their writing, which will focus on explaining how plants grow. A particular highlight has been discovering that when we label a picture in writing, it becomes something special – a diagram!
In maths, Year 1 have started their new unit on position and direction. They've enjoyed learning about different types of turns, as well as understanding the difference between forwards and backwards, and left and right. They’ve even picked up a clever trick to help them remember which way is which! Meanwhile, Year 2 have been working hard on telling the time and have shown great determination in tackling this important skill.
To top off the week, both year groups had a fantastic visit from the Life Bus. The children thoroughly enjoyed their time on board and took part in a range of engaging and thought-provoking activities.
Well done, Year 1 and 2 – what a brilliant first week back of learning!
