WB: 20.4.26

Year 1

We were very fortunate to begin the week with a visit from Olympian Alice Sharpe on Monday. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a range of sporty activities, cheering on their friends and showing great team spirit. Afterwards, Alice led an inspiring assembly where she shared her journey, achievements, and future goals. The children were fascinated and motivated by her story.

On Thursday, we celebrated National Cricket Day with a fantastic session led by Mr Bishop. The lesson started with simple beanbag activities and built up to throwing a ball underarm to hit the wickets in teams. The children had great fun developing their skills and working together.

In writing, we have continued exploring the story of the Gingerbread Man. The children have begun preparing to write their own “Wanted” posters, using some fantastic adjectives to describe him. We are looking forward to seeing their final pieces next week!

In maths, we have been learning about equal groups, arrays, and making doubles. On Thursday, the classroom turned into a busy shop, where the children became shopkeepers. They worked very hard to ensure their “customers” received equal groups of items in each bag.

It has certainly been a busy and enjoyable week in Year 1!

Year 2

This week in English, we completed our calligrams! We thought about the different poetic features that we wanted to include such as alliteration and similes. We completed some performance poetry this week and practised the poem ‘Animal Music’. We have now started thinking about riddles and the features of these.

In maths, we have continued our learning about fractions. We have been finding 1/4 of a shape or quantity and have investigated thirds. We have also started thinking about unit fractions and know that these are fractions with a numerator of 1.

On Monday, we took part in a circuit session led by Alice Sharpe. We learnt lots of important skills when working with Alice and felt inspired to have dreams!

In art this week, we used a range of resources and materials to create our own sculptures. We thought about how we could join materials in different ways.

In science this week, we have been thinking about whether objects are living, dead or have never been alive. We used our knowledge of the life processes to work out if something was living.

Our RE learning this week again thought about our local community. We thought about why our community was special to us.

In PSHE, we thought about changes again and identified which changes we can choose and which we cannot.
