WB: 27.4.26

This week in Year 1, we have been busy across all areas of our learning.

In writing, we completed our Wanted posters for the Gingerbread Man. We began by describing what he looks like and explaining where he was last seen. We then added a reward to encourage people to help catch him. The children worked hard to include lots of detail in their descriptions.

In maths, we have started learning about halves. We discovered that two halves make a whole and that the parts must be equal. On Thursday, we practised sharing different items into two groups and learned that only even numbers can be halved equally.

In geography, we explored some famous landmarks around the United Kingdom. The children then drew their own favourite landmark and explained why they chose it.

In RE, we learned about special places in our community. Just like in geography, we used the key word because to explain why these places are important to us.

Year 2

This week in English, we have continued learning about poetry with a focus on riddles. We have been reorganising riddles to ensure that the trickiest clues come first and have had a go at writing some of our own riddles. We have then been thinking about a new unit; diaries. We started off by looking at what we already know about diaries and then worked to use adjectives to describe scenes that Charles Darwin may have encountered on his voyages.

In maths, we finished our fractions unit. We looked at non-unit fractions (where the numerator is more than 1) before recognising the equivalence of 2/4 and 1/2 and finding 3/4 of a shape or quantity.

In art this week, we created our own sculptures. We did not plan these first so our ideas changed as we continued making.

Our Science this week focussed on microhabitats. We recapped living things and the seven life processes before walking around the school to find microhabitats and what lives there.

We have also completed our entries for the Gala Art competition. As Manea Gala is celebrating 70 years, we thought about what life in the 1950s would have been like and based our art on that. Remember to go to the Gala to have a look at all of the incredible art work!
