Year 1
In Writing, we have focused on turning our ideas about the Gingerbread House setting into full sentences. The children have worked hard to use adjectives to describe nouns and to make sure their sentences are fully punctuated. We are so proud of the effort everyone has put into their writing, and they should be proud of themselves too! We have also enjoyed retelling the story of The Gingerbread Man, which will help us next term when we begin writing a recount letter about what really happened after the Gingerbread Man left the old woman.
In Maths, we have been partitioning numbers to 100 into tens and ones. We have enjoyed consolidating our learning of numbers from 50–100 through some fun games of bingo. We are now all professional bingo callers!
In PE, we have been developing our teamwork skills and practising using tennis rackets and balls. We had great fun learning different skills and challenging ourselves to see how many times we could bounce the ball on the racket without it falling off.
Well done, Year 1, for all of your hard work this half term. You all deserve a well-earned break!
Year 2
This week, we put all of our learning together to write our diary entries in English. We used the information that we collected to create a plan before writing and publishing our work.
We completed our time unit in maths this week; telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes and working out the hours in a day. We applied our skills to different problems and thought about what we may be doing at different times of the day.
This week in art, we looked back at all of our work from this unit. We used 2 stars and a wish to share what we have liked, what we are proud of and also something that we would like to change.
In Science, we thought about how animals are adapted to their habitats. We thought about how ducks have waterproof wings and webbed feet to help them keep warm and dry and swim more efficiently. We thought about how polar bears have a thick layer of fat under their skin to keep them warm in the polar regions. We also thought about how chameleons can camouflage into their surroundings. Have a look at the photos to see if you can spot the chameleons that we tried to hide!
In PSHE, we used the story The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark to explore coping strategies for strong or uncomfortable emotions. We thought about Plop and how he dealt with different things that worried him.
Well done for all of your hard work this half-term, Beech Class! Have a restful half-term break.
