Year 1
This week, we have been developing our skills in writing lists and labels. We have used several photographs from our book of the week, Traction Man and the Beach Odyssey, to inspire our writing.
We have really enjoyed being creative with our lists and labels, and it has been wonderful to see the children becoming more independent with their spellings each week. Well done, Year 1!
Next week, we will continue exploring Traction Man and the Beach Odyssey and discover even more within the story.
In Maths, we have continued to focus on numbers to 10, particularly counting backwards and finding 1 less.
We will continue developing these skills next week as we begin to compare groups of objects. Take a look at our photographs of the cubes, where we used our key vocabulary ‘fewer’ and ‘more’ to compare two groups. We did a fantastic job explaining which group had more and which had fewer!
In Art, we explored continuous line drawing. This was quite a challenge! We had to try really hard to keep our pencil on the page while drawing the object we could see in front of us.
We were also given just 5 minutes to complete our drawing, making sure we included as much detail from our object as possible. It was wonderful to see the children concentrating carefully and trying their best.
Please take a look at our photographs to see some of our fantastic artwork!
Another busy and brilliant week! We are so proud of all the hard work, creativity and independence you have shown. Keep it up, Year 1!
What a fantastic week we have had in Year 2!
๐ English
This week we completed our Lists, Labels and Captions unit. The children thoroughly enjoyed showcasing all the skills they have learned by creating their own lists, labels and captions to accompany an image. We were very impressed with their hard work and creativity!
๐ข Maths
In Maths, we began writing our own addition equations to match part-whole models, showing how a whole number can be flexibly partitioned into two parts. Towards the end of the week, we moved on to exploring number lines, identifying intervals, finding missing numbers and estimating where numbers belong on a number line.
๐งช Science
The children enjoyed investigating the properties of wood, cardboard and paper. We explored the characteristics of each material and discussed what they are best used for in everyday life.
๐๏ธ History
In History, we investigated how baby toys have changed over time. The children worked together to place different toys onto a timeline, predicting which were created first. We then compared our predictions to the actual timeline and had some great discussions about the results.
โ๏ธ Handwriting
We have continued our journey towards joined-up handwriting. Over the past three weeks, the children have worked incredibly hard on this skill, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence and fluency flourish as they become more comfortable joining their letters.
๐ต Music
This week in Music, we had lots of fun creating our own call-and-response phrases inspired by the melody of Tony Chestnuts, the song we have been learning. The children showed great enthusiasm and creativity during these activities.
๐ Come and Read Session
A big thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to attend our Come and Read session on Wednesday. It was lovely to see so many of you there! The children had been looking forward to the visit all day and were so excited to show you around their new classroom and share some of their learning with you. Of course, they also thoroughly enjoyed the extra treat of getting to leave school a little earlier too!
Well done to all of Year 2 for another week of fantastic learning. We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to another exciting week ahead!
