Year 1

What a wonderful first few days back we have had in Year 1!

The children have all settled in exceptionally well and have done a fantastic job of beginning to establish their new Year 1 routines. We have spent lots of time getting to know one another and have enjoyed listening respectfully to our friends as they shared stories about what they got up to during the Summer holidays.

In Maths, we have begun to sort and count objects. We used counters to create two groups and sorted them by colour. We learnt that, even when we think we know how many objects are in a picture, it is really important to carefully count each one, as sometimes the objects like to trick us! We have also been working hard on our number formation from 0–10 and have discovered that some numbers can be a little tricky to remember which way round they should be formed.

We have continued with our diary writing and spent some time writing a sentence about our favourite thing we did during the holidays it sounds like everyone had a truly wonderful time making special memories with their loved ones.

Next week, we will begin to explore lists, labels and captions as part of our English work. We have also enjoyed reading Traction Man this week and are very excited to find out more about his adventures and see where they take us!

🌟 Our First Week in Year 2! 🌟

What a fantastic first week we have had in Year 2! The children have settled back into school life brilliantly and have made a wonderful start to the new school year. We are so proud of how quickly they have adapted to their new classroom routines and challenges.

In English, we have been practising our writing skills, focusing on using finger spaces, capital letters, correct letter formation and writing neatly on a line. The children have worked hard to show their best handwriting and presentation.

In Maths, we have begun our new Place Value unit. The children have been exploring two-digit numbers and using manipulatives to help them build and represent different numbers. 

In History, we started our exciting new topic, Changes in Toys. The children enjoyed looking at pictures of toys from the past and present, discussing how toys have changed over time. It was wonderful to hear their ideas and comparisons. As part of this the children worked in groups to create their own games using just a hula hoop! They demonstrated fantastic creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

The children particularly enjoyed their first Art lesson. The children explored a range of artwork created using natural resources and discussed how artists use materials from the world around them to create their pieces. They then enjoyed thinking creatively about which natural resources they would choose to use when creating their own artwork.

The children have also enjoyed their first PE lessons of the year. There was great excitement and lots of laughter as they took part in the popular "Car Game", which was a real class favourite!

We are incredibly proud of the children's positive attitude and excellent effort throughout their first week. We can't wait for all of the learning and adventures that Year 2 has in store!
