Year 1
In English this week, we finished planning and writing the ending of our recount letters from the Gingerbread Man to the old lady. Once our letters were complete, we enjoyed reading them aloud to our friends on Thursday morning. We have all been so proud of our writing, and the children produced some lovely letters. Some of the children even invented a name for the old lady!
In Maths, we have been developing our vocabulary when learning about time, using words such as before and after. We have also been consolidating our learning of the days of the week and the months of the year. We had a very catchy song to help us remember the days of the week—although when we realised we are at school for 5 days and only at home for 2, there were a few grumpy faces!
In the afternoons, the children have been working incredibly hard practising for our end-of-year production, which we were finally able to perform for you on Thursday morning. Firstly, thank you all so much for coming—weren’t they amazing? As the song said, they really are all superstars!
With the weather being so hot this week, the children enjoyed a special treat and were able to cool down by dipping their feet into a cold water tray for a little “spa break”, which was lots of fun. On Wednesday afternoon, we were also very lucky to have Ivy come into class. We enjoyed several games of bingo, read a couple of stories together and had a lovely catch-up with her.
What a busy, exciting and very warm week it has been in Year 1—well done everyone
Year 2
This week in English we started our new unit based on narratives. We have been using the story of Hansel and Gretel, have been thinking about the key events from the story and sequencing the events.
In maths, we have continued our unit on position and direction. We have been describing movement and turns and have created patters with shapes. We have also been recapping our place value knowledge and have created posters representing 2-digit numbers in different ways.
In computing, we thought about the different shapes that we could make using paint and how to fill these with different colours. We tried to recreate a piece of artwork by Henri Matisse, have a look at the photos to see how we got on.
We have been practising our play again this week but unfortunately it has had to be postponed because of the hot weather, we hope you can all join us next Thursday morning!
