Autumn 1: 

Week 1: 

Welcome Back, Year 6!

It has been a fantastic start to the new school year for Year 6! The children have settled back into school really well and have quickly established our classroom routines and expectations. It has been wonderful to see them demonstrating such a positive attitude towards their learning and taking on the responsibilities that come with being our oldest pupils.

In English, we have been discussing our writing expectations and focusing on producing work to a high standard. We are also working hard to ensure that our handwriting is neat, joined and consistent.

In Maths, we have started our new Place Value unit. The children have been exploring numbers up to 10 million, developing their understanding of the value of each digit and how numbers can be represented in different ways.

In PE, we have begun our football and basketball topics. The children have made a fantastic start and have really enjoyed getting active. They have also been looking very smart in their new PE T-shirts!

We are incredibly proud of how well Year 6 have started the year and are looking forward to all the exciting learning and opportunities ahead.

Week 2: 

🌟 This Week in Year 6

It has been another fantastic week in Year 6, with lots of exciting learning taking place!

🔬 Science
This week, we have been learning all about static electricity. The children then put their learning into practice by carrying out an experiment to investigate static electricity. They really enjoyed testing their ideas and seeing the results for themselves!

🎨 Art
In Art, we have started creating our pieces ready to share with you all at our Harvest Assembly. We have been experimenting with a range of different materials to create interesting textures and effects. We can't wait for you to see the finished pieces!

📚 English
In English, the children have been revisiting their learning about nouns. They have excelled at retrieving their prior knowledge and have shown a fantastic understanding of the different types of nouns.

Week 3: 14.9.26.

Year 6 have continued to work incredibly hard across all of their lessons this week, showing great enthusiasm and perseverance in their learning.

In Maths, the children have been introduced to long division. They have risen to the challenge brilliantly, and we have even had some children tell us that they love long division! It has been fantastic to see their confidence growing as they tackle this new skill.

In PSHE, we have been thinking about how we can make new people feel welcome and supported when they join our school. The children discussed how starting somewhere new can bring lots of different emotions and feelings. They worked together to create a welcome guide to help new pupils feel comfortable, included and part of our school community.

A big thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our Come and Read session. It was lovely to see so many of you sharing a book and enjoying this special time with your children.

Finally, it has been wonderful to see the children wearing their new PE T-shirts with such pride! They look fantastic and have certainly been showing off their new team spirit.

Week 4: 21.9.26.

Year 6 have continued to work incredibly hard in all of their lessons this week and have shown great enthusiasm and determination in their learning.

In English, the children have been learning about single-clause sentences and exploring what needs to be included to make a complete sentence. They have been developing their understanding of sentence structure and using this knowledge to support their writing.

In Maths, the children completed their first SATs-style arithmetic paper. They demonstrated some excellent retrieval skills and showed great resilience when tackling the questions. They have also continued to develop their skills in long division, which they have thoroughly enjoyed learning about!

In Geography, we have been learning all about the desert biome. The children have explored its key features and characteristics and have enjoyed finding out more about how plants, animals and people adapt to this challenging environment.

Another fantastic week, Year 6 — well done for all your hard work! 👏

Week 5: 28.9.26.

Year 6 have had another action-packed week of learning and fun!

In Science, we have been exploring electricity and building our own electrical circuits, developing our understanding of how circuits work and what makes them complete.

In Reading, we have continued our exciting journey through Beowulf, exploring the story, characters and vocabulary as we delve deeper into this classic tale.

In Maths, we have been sharpening our arithmetic skills, working hard to improve our accuracy, fluency and confidence when tackling calculations.

To finish the week, we enjoyed a fun and energetic Boogie Bounce session on Friday! It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved, keeping active and having lots of fun.

Week 6: 5.10.26.

his week, Year 6 have been working hard across the curriculum! In English, we have started our new writing topic: non-chronological reports about biomes. We have explored examples of effective reports and identified the key technical vocabulary and formal language needed to write in this style.

In PE, the children have put their skills to the test by competing in football and basketball tournaments, demonstrating teamwork, determination and sportsmanship.

In Maths, we have been focusing on fractions, practising how to compare and order fractions by considering their denominators and the value of each fraction.

In PSHE, we have been playing board games designed to help us explore managing our emotions and developing strategies for when we feel alone in an unfamiliar situation. The children have discussed helpful ways to cope with these feelings, build confidence and identify strategies they can use in everyday life.

We have also been busy rehearsing our lines for the upcoming Harvest Festival. The children have been practising hard, and we look forward to sharing their efforts with you!

Week 7: 12.10.26.

Year 6 have continued to work hard in English this week, writing their non-chronological reports about the world’s biomes. In PE, our basketball tournament was engaging and enjoyable, and it was lovely to see so many children supporting and encouraging one another. Well done, Year 6!

In Maths, we have started our new unit on fractions, exploring key concepts and developing our understanding.

A big well done to all the children who have completed their Accelerated Reader (AR) quizzes! Please continue to encourage your child to take their quiz regularly after finishing a book, as this helps us to celebrate their reading progress and check their understanding.

Next week, we look forward to welcoming you to our Harvest Play. We can’t wait to share this special occasion with you!

Week 8: 19/10/26

It has been another busy and exciting week in Year 6!

In English, the children have completed their non-chronological reports about the world’s biomes. They have worked incredibly hard to research, organise and present their information. Take a look at some of their amazing work below!

In PE, we rounded off the half term with a multi-sport tournament, where the children took part in a range of sporting activities. It was fantastic to see their teamwork, determination and sportsmanship in action.

During PHSE, some children brought in board games to share with their classmates. This was a great opportunity to practise turn-taking, working as a team and playing fairly with others.

A huge well done to our girls’ football team, who took part in a football festival at Cromwell College. The girls played brilliantly as a team and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We are very proud of them!

Finally, a big thank you to all the parents and carers who attended parents’ evenings. It was lovely to celebrate the children’s successes together and discuss the targets they can focus on as we move into the next part of the school year. Your support is greatly appreciated.
