Year 1
This week in Writing, we began our exciting new unit on repetitive stories using Jack and the Beanstalk. We have started exploring the story and have really enjoyed joining in with the repeated phrases, especially when the giant says, "Fee, fi, fo, fum!" We have identified the different characters in the story and have also been learning about third-person pronouns. We are looking forward to exploring the text further over the coming weeks.
In Maths, we have continued our learning about time. This week, we practised making o'clock times using our own clocks. It was a little tricky at first, but we soon learnt that the hour hand (the short hand) points to the hour number, while the minute hand (the long hand) points to the 12 for o'clock times. We also enjoyed learning a fun song to help us remember how to tell the time!
In History, we learnt about the scientist Rosalind Franklin and discovered how her important work helped scientists understand DNA. We asked some fantastic questions and showed great curiosity about her discoveries.
On Thursday afternoon, we were delighted to welcome Kate from Playground Proms. She taught us two new songs, which we are looking forward to performing for the rest of the school next week.
What a fun-filled and busy week we have had! We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Year 2
This week in English, we have continued our narrative unit. We have been identifying the features of a narrative, designing our own Gingerbread House and planning our own version of the story. Next week, we will be writing our stories!
In maths, we have been recapping learning from the whole year. We have been writing numbers in numerals and words, comparing numbers and adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers.
In RE this week, we thought about religious stories from Sikhism. We learnt about the story The Milk and The Jasmine Flower. The story showed that there is always room for goodness in the world. We also used junk modelling to create our own bowl and Jasmine Flower.
In science, we thought about the seasons again and focussed on summer. We looked for signs of summer and thought about how summer is different to other seasons.
In History this year we have been learning about Edith Cavell and Florence Nightingale.
