Year 1:
What a busy and entertaining first half term we have had in Year 1!
On Monday afternoon, we were delighted to perform our Harvest Assembly for you all. The children have worked incredibly hard learning all of their songs and poems, and we were so proud of them! A huge thank you to everyone who came along to watch. We hope you enjoyed watching the performance as much as we enjoyed sharing it with you.
Our next performance will soon be on the horizon, as we begin rehearsing after half term for… do I dare mention the word Nativity?! 🎄
In English, the children have been getting creative with Traction Man. They drew a scene of Traction Man enjoying a picnic, joined by Evil Spoon and the Dangerous Jam Jar! They then used their imaginations to add another character or object to the scene and labelled their drawings. It was wonderful to see their creativity and the fantastic ideas they came up with.
In RE, we have reached our final lesson exploring how different religions celebrate and worship. To finish our learning, the children had the opportunity to create their very own celebration day. It was lovely to see their ideas come to life and to hear about the special traditions and activities they included.
Well done, Year 1! You have worked so hard this half term, and I am incredibly proud of all you have achieved. I cannot wait to welcome you back next term as we begin getting festive and enjoy all the exciting things still to come!
Have a wonderful, well-deserved half-term break. You have certainly earned it!
Year 2:
What a wonderful way to end the half term!
English
This week, we have been using our learning about single-clause sentences to help us write paragraphs. The children worked hard to ensure their sentences included a subject, verb and additional information, as well as using capital letters and punctuation correctly. We also explored what a paragraph is and why writers use paragraphs to organise their ideas.
Maths
In Maths, we have been consolidating our learning from this half term. The children have been building their confidence with number bonds to 10, 20 and 100, finding the next multiple of 10, and using their understanding to add across a 10. We have been really impressed with the children's growing fluency and confidence when applying these important skills.
Science
This week in Science, we learned about Harvest and how it is celebrated at different times around the world. We discussed signs of Harvest that we have noticed in our local area, such as farmers harvesting potatoes in the fields on our journeys to school. The children particularly enjoyed designing their own Harvest meal to celebrate this special time of year.
PE
In PE, we consolidated our learning from this term and had the opportunity to showcase the progress we have made in skipping. The children have worked incredibly hard and have shown great determination to improve their skills since the beginning of the year. Well done, Year 2!
PSHE
We discussed how we can cope with the different emotions we might experience when faced with a new situation. The children enjoyed sharing their ideas and discussing strategies that help them feel calm, confident and ready to take on new challenges.
The children did an amazing job during their Harvest Assembly on Monday. It was so lovely to see so many family members attending to support them. The children thoroughly enjoyed welcoming you into the classroom and were so proud to share all of their hard work and achievements with you.
Thank you for all of your support this half term. We wish you a restful and enjoyable half-term break, and we cannot wait to hear all about your adventures when we return to school on Monday 2nd November.
Have a wonderful break!
