WB: 28.9.26

Year 1:

In Maths, we have continued to develop our number formation skills up to 10. This week, we have been working particularly hard on using a number line and identifying the value of each number. We had lots of fun using a variety of different objects to represent numbers on our number line, helping us to develop our understanding in a practical and hands-on way.

In Writing, we had great fun designing and drawing our very own Traction Man! We then labelled the different items of clothing and accessories in our drawings. We worked incredibly hard to sound out words independently and use our phonics knowledge to write our labels. We were so proud of our wonderful drawings and writing! We have enjoyed listening to our new story in the Traction Man series - Traction Man meets Turbo dog!

In Science, we explored a range of different objects alongside some key vocabulary cards. Working together in groups, we had to decide which adjective best described the material each object was made from. We enjoyed discussing our ideas and using new scientific vocabulary to describe the materials around us.

In History, we loved looking through the photographs kindly shared by our parents and carers, showing our favourite toys and the toys they played with when they were younger. We particularly enjoyed seeing our parents playing with their toys and comparing them with the toys we play with today. It was fascinating to spot the similarities and differences between toys from different generations!

Finally, we have started practising our Harvest songs ready for our assembly in a few weeks. We are working hard to learn the words and actions, and we cannot wait to share our singing and a few special surprises with you all!

Year 2:

English
This week, we have been exploring verbs, reminding ourselves that verbs are action words. The children learnt the difference between regular and irregular verbs and began identifying and using verb phrases in their writing. They enjoyed discussing how verbs help to make our sentences more interesting and engaging.

Maths
At the start of the week, we completed our Place Value unit by learning to count in 3s. The children enjoyed using a variety of manipulatives to build and represent groups of three, helping to develop their understanding of multiplication patterns.

We have now begun our new Addition and Subtraction unit. Building on our knowledge of number bonds to 10, the children have been learning number bonds to 20 and exploring the related fact families. It has been wonderful to see them making connections between addition and subtraction facts.

Science
In Science, we explored the properties of glass and plastic. The children were introduced to the key vocabulary: flexible, brittle, transparent, translucent and opaque. We discussed the suitability of different materials for particular purposes, considering examples such as why a submarine window would be made from glass.

History
We continued our learning about toys from the past. This week, we focused on toys that belonged to our caregivers' parents and compared them with modern toys. Thank you to everyone who sent in photographs. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing and discussing these, helping to bring our learning to life.

PE
We had a special treat this week when Boogie Bounce visited our school. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this energetic and fun session and showed great enthusiasm throughout.

Art
In Art, the children continued developing their observational drawing skills. Using flowers as inspiration, they created beautiful artwork with watercolours, carefully observing shape, colour and detail.
