Year 1:
What a fantastic week we’ve had in Year 1! We’ve been working hard, learning lots and having plenty of fun along the way. Here’s a little look at what we’ve been up to this week.
This week, we have been focusing really hard on our number bonds to 10. We began by working systematically to identify patterns and understand how different numbers can be combined to make 10. Once we had spotted the patterns, we put our knowledge to the test through a variety of activities.
One of our favourite activities was playing the number bond game, Hit the Button! If your child would like to practise their number bonds at home, you can play along too by clicking the link below:
We finished the week by putting our addition skills into action. On Friday, we had different buckets labelled with numbers from 0 to 10. Working with a partner, we took turns throwing two beanbags into the buckets. Once both beanbags had landed, we had to add the two numbers together to calculate our total score. It was a brilliant way to practise our addition skills while having lots of fun!
In Drawing Club this week, our focus story was The Tiger Who Came to Tea, and we absolutely loved exploring this classic story!
Our word of the week was the common exception word 'school'. We challenged ourselves to include this word in our sentences, and it was wonderful to see the creativity and imagination the children showed when putting their ideas into words. Please take a look at their fantastic work!
We’ve also been busy practising for our Harvest Assembly, and this week we completed our final rehearsals. The excitement is certainly building, and we can’t wait to share all our hard work with you. Not long to go now!
Well done, Year 1, for another brilliant week of learning! We have just one more week to go before a well-deserved break. And, because I’m feeling extra kind, I’ll let you have Friday off too, as we finish school on Thursday!
Have a lovely weekend, everyone, and I look forward to seeing you all next week for our final week before the break!
We have had another fantastic week of learning in Year 2!
This week, we have been developing our understanding of single-clause sentences by being introduced to 'leftovers'. The children have worked brilliantly to identify and label the different components within a sentence, including the subject, verb or verb phrase, and leftovers. They have then used this knowledge to correctly punctuate single-clause sentences, understanding where one sentence ends and another begins.
In Maths, we have used our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to help us find the next multiple of 10. We have then applied this understanding to begin learning how to add across a ten, breaking numbers into smaller parts and using our number bond knowledge to make tricky additions much easier to solve.
This week, we explored the season of Autumn. We went on an exciting Autumn hunt around the school grounds, searching for signs of the season. The children thoroughly enjoyed spotting and identifying things such as conkers, autumn leaves, and bare trees, and were keen to share their discoveries with one another.
We enjoyed our final lesson in our Tony Chestnut unit this week. The children loved playing the chime bars along to the tune and showed great enthusiasm throughout the lesson. We have also been working hard to rehearse our Harvest Assembly songs and are very excited to perform them for you on Monday afternoon.
In Art, the children took part in a walking gallery, proudly displaying their favourite pieces of artwork for their classmates to view and celebrate. It was wonderful to see the children appreciating each other's creativity and sharing positive feedback.
During PSHE, we discussed different situations and considered whether they are things we can manage independently, with support from our friends, or whether we would need help from a trusted adult. The children contributed thoughtfully to our discussions and showed a good understanding of where to seek help when needed.
We have had a wonderful week in Year 2 and are looking forward to seeing you all on Monday at 2:40pm in the hall for our Harvest Assembly. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to visit the classroom and see all of the amazing work your children have been producing.
🌟 Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday! 🌟
